National Republicans have poured more than $1 million into a deep-red slice of the Phoenix suburbs to boost Debbie Lesko, a former state senator running to replace former Rep. Trent Franks in Congress. The district backed President Donald Trump by 21 points in 2016, but most GOP operatives said the best-case scenario they see for Lesko is a high single-digit margin of victory against Democrat Hiral Tipirneni on Tuesday.

The district’s conservative lean and large share of seniors — the third-highest of any congressional district outside Florida — have insulated Lesko, but worrying signs are still there for Republicans watching the race.

Hmmm... will this put a damper on the "blue wave"? I don't think so, but clearly the R candidate should be the winner here today. I guess the interesting number to watch will be the margin. If the heavens should open up and Lesko not win, there needs to be full-blown panic in the RNC, cause it's freaking Arizona.

Trump has naturally tweeted his support for the R candidate, in his typically hysterical way....

Arizona, please get out today and vote @DebbieLesko for Congress in #AZ08. Strong on Border, Immigration and Crime. Great on the Military. Time is ticking down - get out and VOTE today. We need Debbie in Congress!

"Great on the Military"?? Is she pro-parade??

Breitbart working hard to spin this one.

Arizona's 8th Congressional district went for Trump by a 25 point margin. Lesko, who was well funded, well known, and had no scandals (that I know about at least) just won the district by 6 points. That is a 19 point swing.

Republicans should be slamming the panic button.

You do realize the popular vote matters in every other election, right?

When he said 'any other election' he was talking about literally any other election that happens in this country aside from the presidential election.

Sounds like this turned out as expected, taking into account the swings towards D's the past 6 months... both sources I used said Trump won by 21% in 2016, so I have it at a 15 point swing, which while isn't as good as the 20 point swing for Conor Lamb last month, is still very good in always red Arizona.

Seems to me like this was relatively pitiful turnout..... Wiki has the population of this district at 768K in 2015, but with 94% of the vote counted, the total vote isn't even 174K, which is less than 23%.... I wonder if that has something to do with it being such a high senior area (see OP)??
But they only had 170K turnout for 2014 midterm election, so I guess this isn't too far out of line...

The only major downer for me (us) is that we lost the chance to see the Trump tweet cutting all ties with Debbie should she have lost... those are great!

Looks like you're the one doing the spinning. The dems had more money, going afdter a seat vacated by a GOP sex scandal, and still lost.

I love how , when running against a guy smeared nationwide by unsubstantiated sex claims and in Alabama, or when the democrats runs ASA REPUBLICAN, as in Pennsylvania...it's "The Blue Wave", and when there are no such false flags in the race, the dems spend more than a quarter of a million more, for a seat vacated by a sex scandal, while touting an "upset", and STILL LOSE...it's a "victory".

You guys are funny. Get ready for a bunch more "we lost but we won" bullshit in November, especially in BORDER STATES.

This is good practice for you...

Dems have lost over 1,000 seats nationwide since 2009...and are still pushing the illegals over Americans agenda, plus decrying very popular tax cuts, as we go into November. The GOP holds more political power, in more state legislatures and governorships, than they have since 1931.

The GOP will not only hold the house, they will gain SIGNIFICANT seats in the US Senate.

Of course, then you'll be here declaring "victory" because you and yours lost again.

Yes, like you did in 2016.

Working on your "we got our asses handed to us, again, despite the "polls' " claims, but we 'really won' " speech , yet?

And Trump won the popular vote in 31 states, including 4 of the 7 with populations of 10,000,000 or more, and the swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania Ohio and Florida by over 784,000 votes.

Hillary won the popular vote due to Californian..PERIOD, and who knows how many of those were illegals , voting illegally, using the DELIBERATE LOOPHOLE in the voter registration/driver license law of Fraudifornia, designed to allow it?

Rahm Emanuel issues "city ID's" to help illegals defraud welfare & Medicaid ... does anyone doubt he'd condone voter fraud too? Florida, and New York are pushing to restore felons voting rights. Cuomo wants felons on parole to vote in mid-terms. Dems will literally stoop to any level necessary ahead of 2018 / 2020. McConnel & Ryan needed to pass universal voter ID legislation months ago.

Well, as I read it, here are the Senate seats truly up for grabs

Ariz (R- Flake) - No R cakewalk anymore
Fla (D- Nelson) - Florida always a tossup
Ind (D- Donnelly) - This is one that could easily go R
    Mo (D-McCaskill) - I think she's pretty safe overall
Nev (R-Heller) - D's are taking Nev back
ND (D- Heidkamp) - Gonna be tough to hold this one.
TN (R- Corker) - Tenn will again be a purple state - No call
WV (D-Manchin) - Joe votes with the GOP enough to be safe...

Those 8 will decide the makeup of the Senate, but with the dipstick currently running the GOP in the Senate, even if the R's keep the majority, which is likely, he has no ability to make it work for him.

Because the nation wide shift in voting patterns since the last election is VERY relevant to the likely midterm results.

Not to mention the Democratic party put no money into this election because it just wasn't really worth it, she was an easy win for Republicans in their own republican district but they still performed very poorly, they should be concerned.

I didn't even hear about this election until yesterday. Then I remembered it was because of the guy who asked to **** his Co workers to carry his child lol. Yikes.
