Edible insects (beetles, caterpillars and wasps) are being promoted as a low-fat, high-protein food for people, pets and livestock. According to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) on Monday (13 May), they come with appetizing side benefits: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and livestock pollution, creating jobs in developing countries and feeding the millions of hungry people in the world. It won't be surprising that everybody may have to start eating "buggers" for breakfast one fine day when the crunch comes. Similarly, it may be very common for a visiting head of state to crunch on insects at a state dinner hosted by his counterpart in the future. Bon appétit! UN urges: Eat more insects!
