The number of abortions obtained by women in this country was little changed by legalization. The number of illegal abortions was close to the number obtained after legalization. The same is true in other countries, some countries where abortion is illegal have a higher abortion rate than the US. If women cannot drive farther, they will get internet drugs and take them with no medical supervision. Or they will find an illegal abortionist. There you go again...twisting things. I am pro-choice and one good reason to be pro-choice is the realization that women will have abortions whether they are legal or not, and illegal abortions kill and maim women.
The best way to actually prevent abortions is to start addressing the reasons women have them. It is a fact that amongst all groups of women abortion has gone down in recent years however it has gone up amongst women who are poor. One of the number one reasons women have abortions is due to financial problems. Solve that issue and you'll likely see a drop in abortions amongst poor women. Look at the other reasons behind why women choose abortion and address those issues too. No you will not be able to stop abortion forever because some women simply don't ever want to be parents, but you can decrease it amongst women who felt pushed into having one due to the circumstances in their life.

GEEEE? Don't the health departments give it away? Also pills to prevent pregnancy and condoms to prevent disease. Used together chances of failure are almost zero.
Not in the US they don't just give away birth control and certainly not hormonal birth control, you need a prescription for that and it can cost upwards of $50 a month without insurance. Also many women are allergic to hormonal birth control or it makes them sick. I for example can't take it because it makes me completely nauseated all day. Condoms break for a variety of reasons all the time as well.
Does not medicaid and insurance cover birth control? I honestly feel that if one tries not to get pregnant they will not. This includes not having sex at peek fertility times.
Remember. . .it is the men who wear condoms! How about asking THEM to "afford them," and to "use them appropriately!" It would not only prevent many abortions, it would also prevent STD's. And what about the MEN who believe "they know better" and will "withdraw in time?"
Well if they fall into that group they should at least pick up a rubber. There are just too many excuses and little accountability.
True, however I do believe that birth control is one of those things that should be provided. According to the CDC, teen pregnancy rates in the USA are currently the lowest they've ever been since we started measuring them. Oops. So much for the "Sex education just encourages those sluts to have more unprotected sex!" mantra.
Unfortunately rubbers do not always work and although they stop some pregnancies the pregnancies that DO happen are unwanted pregnancies
