Today I was wondering how dogs came about from wolves so I searched on google and found an article on the subject which I found to be very interesting. Here it is: http://www.moderndogmagazine.com/articles/how-dogs-were-created/12679
I heard that wolves were attracted to the left over food around human settlements. And humans tolerated these hang around wolves because they warned the humans of approaching danger with their superior hearing and sense of smell. But a few of these wolves were DNA programmed to not be that fearful of humans, and these human tolerant wolves stayed close to the human settlements. With time these human tolerant wolves breed with each other, and it kept creating wolves that were less and less fearful of humans. These human tolerant wolves breed to the point where they no longer feared humans. And then these tame wolves began to join humans on food hunts, and they formed even closer bonds with humans. Then these new hunting partner wolves began to breed with each other, and at some point dogs came into existence. That's the theory I heard.
Interesting explanation for why domesticated dogs bark more than wild ones. It does make sense. They made great intruder alerts - still do. My two Golden Doodles sound ferocious with deep, gruff barks. It's all bluff. After barking and growling a little, their tails start wagging and they run to the visitor to shake paws and hopefully get a belly rub! Geese!
