Republicans need to have a net gain of six seats in the 2014 elections. They are currently projected to pick up three and there are 4 tossups in 4 states that voted for romney. Will they reach their goal?

They hurt the brand with the shutdown nonsense, and that hurt their chances on the tossups.
Even if they gain the Senate, they'd need 67 Senate seats to repeal ObamaCare(assuming Obama would veto the repeal bill), and that's not going to happen.
If the GOP can win the White House in 2016, (and the GOP has lost the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 presidential elections), they'd need 60 senate seats to repeal ObamaCare, and that is highly unlikely.

ObamaCare is here to stay, and given the shifting demographics, it's unlikely that the GOP will regain the hegemony they held briefly at the beginning of the 21st century. (for the first time in over 7 decades).

Better topic is how many will they lose. I cant see them gaining anything it pretty much wishful thinking on the GOP part. They will run out the crazy TeaParty folk and think they havent gone right enough

First you have to remember that these senate seats were last up in 2008, which was a very good year for Democrats, so I expect them to drop a few.
But the hyperventilating over ObamaCare is going to wear thin, and while it will still be magic for the cult, the cult wasn't voting Democratic anyways.
I think the Democrats can hold on to the Senate, and in 2016, we have the bigger turnout of a presidential election year, and we are dealing with the results of 2010, which was a good year for the GOP, that should move senate seats back into the blue column, and depending on how big the coattails are of the nominee, we could be flirting with 60 seats.....

You're crazy if you think Obamacare is just going to run its' course and wane, while thinking the Government Shutdown will last in the minds of Americans forever. Obamacare has already effected more people around the country than the Shutdown, which actually backfired on the Democrats anyway, due to the confrontation with Veterans.

2012 was a Republican landslide victory, due to Obamascare, 2014 will likely follow suit, because Obamascare is finally being realized and it hurts.

2012 was nothing of the kind. What are you referring to?

It would have been interesting if someone had posted which seats are tending Republican and why, some source material to examine and debate and or defend. as it is this simpluy become two sides saying "we will win" with nothing but hot air to back it up.

Having seen some astonishing things in elections, the Liberals here in BC a "Sure Loser" languishing at 20+ points in the polls for two years, a leader who's approval numbers dropped to 13% six months before the election not only won, but gained seats for the first time in two elections. So, you need something more than opinion to base it on.

At this point, the GOP will be lucky if they don't lose 2-3 seats.

    2012 was a "landslide"?

Maybe at the gerrymandered and voter suppressed state level, but we're talking national elections here. The Republicans got trounced in that arena.

Republicans will lose the whole taco. It'll be a landslide victory for Democrats. By 2016, the GOP will become a meaningless, token-opposition political party.

Sorry, I was referring to 2010. However, 2012, wasn't really a "trouncing." There were some votes that changed sides or went independent, but nothing out of the ordinary.

You lost the presidency, seats in both Houses of congress.
    Nothing out of the ordinary?
    Let's hope so.

Yes, nothing out of the ordinary - you either win/lose the presidency and seats in the house/senate consistently change. You can expect to lose the presidency and the senate in 2014/2016. ;P

I will be sure to take my political prognostications from someone that wants to represent themselves with their tongue hanging out of their mouth.

My guess is that they will lose a few, given how hard they have been working to alienate major parts of the electorate. GO, TEA PARTY!

This tit for tat (*)(*)(*)(*) would be humorous if I were 20yrs younger, but honestly it's just annoyingly adolescent.

Where has the individual mandate proved so unpopular that it was repealed?

You really think Democrats are going to repeal it? They love it, because it grants Government more power.

    You miss the point.
There are places that are democracies that have the individual mandate and they like it.
No one has repealed it, why do you think that Americans won't like it?
The Americans who have actually had the individual mandate in place for 6 years like it.
Even though only 123 signed up the first month, and even though it took 2 years to get all the bugs out of the web site.
    That's reality.
You seem to think that something that has proved popular wherever it has been tried, will be unpopular in the US, because even after it's in place and people see that it's nothing like what's being described by Republicans, it will still be unpopular....

You really watch too much Fox or listen too much to Limbaugh!
Your comments seem to come from an alternate reality!
