I've had this idea on my mind for a while now, and I thought I'd introduce it to you guys. Basically, I think it would be cool if there was a way we could create a role playing game on this site with the use of a few threads. I don't have all the rules worked out yet, but that's why I need your help. Here's some of my ideas: - Each member creates their own country with the rules and political ideology of their choice. A thread would be created by that member for that country describing their politics and population. The user would also use that thread to announce new elections and policies that would let other users see what's going on. One thing to keep in mind is that the member can say what he/she wants, regardless of whether or not it's happening in their country. A thread would be created for that. It would act as their media, if you will. - Once users have created their country and set up their government (or lack thereof for some members), we would all first focus on our nations, shaping them how we want them. Users can also go to war, fight over resources, create alliances, do background deals with other nations, etc. Users would be able to create their own currency. - As leaders of their nation, each user would be able to exchange private information with other users/leaders through private PM's as a way of communication. - Not all users have to be leaders of a nation. To make the game more interesting, users could become vice presidents, secretaries of state, etc. I know I'm speaking from an American viewpoint, but you get the point. Users can be part of a nation's command chain. Users can also be business owners or war generals in another users nation. - Before the game starts, there will have to be map drawn up. Not too complicated, but detailed enough to show land mass, bodies of water, areas with valuable resources, etc. I'm thinking Pasithea would be great for this, after viewing her doodles. - And lastly, there would have to be a way of determining how your population will react to your policies. The game would be too easy if you could turn your nation into dictatorship overnight. All of these are just ideas at the moment, but I think it would be amazing and a lot of fun if we could get a semi-decent role playing game going between users who are passionate about it. Just think of all the fun fictional history we can create with a game like this, as well as inject our political ideas into the game world and battle it out with other users. I'm going to need lots of help getting this off the ground if you guys want to do it, but I'm willing to put time and effort into this, cause I see a lot of potential in it. I'm sure you guys have ideas, so lay them on me. Discuss.
There is actually a website kind of like this where you can create your own nation and then decide what kind of nation it will be. Every day you log in you pass new laws that are brought to you and it shapes and changes your society. It was kind of fun for a while. I made three societies, one was a violent dictatorship (everyone was miserable...lol), I made an extremely liberal all peace loving, vegan country (most of the people lived long lives there), and the third was my idea of a small government Libertarian based society. It shows you crime rates the kinds of crime that are highest, death rates and causes of death, and how the people feel about your leadership overall. I really wish I could remember the website now. lol EDIT: FOUND IT! http://www.nationstates.net/ I really want to go and make my hippie, peace loving, vegan nation again. Ahahaha!
I know it's been almost two months, but I want to bump this thread just to see if I can find any more interest in this game.
I like this idea, can be very creative. I am the Excellent GoneGoing, the Regent and Lords Protector of the Realm of Went. At this time, the Regency has adopted a strict isolationist policy, but if there are others interested, I can change my settings to enable PMs.
I would like to take this time and opportunity to merely goad the wealthiest into insisting that their public servants purchase the finest solutions money can buy, with an official Mint at their disposal, merely for the sake and greater glory of Capitalism.
I would love something like this. I'm a huge need when it comes to political role-play. I used to do a lot of it on althistory.wikia.com with their map games. Quite fun.
I believe there's games like this over on paradoxplaza and maybe even TWC. Perhaps check those out for inspiration and help. I believe I played as Olof Palme during the cold war in one of those.. But I think it's very hard to make a satisfactory game because politics is just so damn complicated. If not even a normal game can handle it, I find it very hard to believe a forum game will. But why not. Sign me up as Prime Minister Carl Seger of Sweden.
