Dennis....this fixation with desalination and desert greening is a neat idea, but impossible to implement on any large scale and would not make much difference even if done worldwide. Do a bit of research into what would be required just financially, let alone diplomatically.
If the number of USA petro dollars in the hands of nations, companies and individuals unfriendly to the USA is truly 4.3 trillion then that makes large scale desalination of ocean water economically feasible....... because it can be argued that humanity needs a mega- project or two or three of them to divert all that money in a productive manner that will not cause something worse than the market fluctuations of 2008 assuming that a deliberate attack on the value of the USA dollar is being planned.
