I can't imagine how the owner of a for-profit business would choose to keep throwing money away on a business venture that was not profitable. I can't imagine it because it doesn't happen. If telemarketing didn't make money, there'd be nobody telemarketing.
Unless some very basic realities have significantly changed in the last 60 years, I suspect that there still many "shitty" jobs out there that pay very little but involve heavy manual labor and / or lots of time on your feet. For those physically able to do those jobs, they are far preferable to a day in which you have to repeatedly humiliate yourself. On the other hand, there is at least the possibility that the telemarketer who has just interrupted your dinner may be disabled to degree that they have no other means of supporting themselves. For that reason I'll either ignore the interruption or treat the caller with brief civility because I never regretted a cruel remark I didn't make.
Many Jews in the Nazi extermination camps were offered the job of working for the murder machine carrying corpses, running the ovens, shoving Zyklon B into the shower rooms, etc. just in order to live one day longer themselves. Some refused and were put to death, others ran against the electric fence to commit suicide. Were they "heroes" or were they not heroes? I am not willing to die for this particular cause but I'll be damned if I am going to intrude on my fellow man's life just to earn a buck. I value people more than that. Tele-marketers are scum.
Whoa.... errr.... what? Telemarketer employees are like Jews who ran the ovens? That's.... wow, just wow. So a person has two choices - welfare or shitty job. You would degrade them either way, I guess, eh? That's a heck of a way to treat your fellow man who just needs to work.
Are you still working in tele-marketing or was it only a phase? My opinion is obviously a thorn in your side and you are taking it very personally. If my view upsets you so much you probably shouldn't get so close to the fire.
