ExxonMobil doubles down on fossil fuels with $59.5 billion Pioneer deal
By Aaron Gregg and Evan Halper

ExxonMobil is buying its oil and gas rival Pioneer Natural Resources in a $59.5 billion megadeal that is a bet by the energy giant that the transition away from fossil fuels will play out at a much slower pace than the White House plans.

The all-stock deal, which both companies announced Wednesday, is the biggest merger for the oil company since it acquired Mobil in 1999. It comes as other oil companies are also refocusing their strategies on fossil fuel production, while scaling back their plans for moving into cleaner energy. . . .

They know supply and demand are both highly inelastic, and it is much easier to reduce supply politically than demand. Result: soaring prices and profits. Funny how anti-fossil-fuel hate-mongering somehow shovels billions into oil companies' pockets....

The COST of fossil fuels INCREASES overall.

The FIXED COST of a Solar or Wind generation system is a ONE TIME expense.

The BREAKEVEN point between solar and fossil fuels has already passed.

    https://oilprice.com/Alternative-En...w-Into-Solar-Than-Oil-For-The-First-Time.html

This part EXPOSES the RISKS of remaining ADDICTED to fossil fuels.

The Fossil Fuels CARTEL can ALWAYS force price INCREASES on consumers because their PRODUCT is NOT renewable.

The Solar and Wind installations are FIXED costs that CANNOT be MANIPULATED like the Fossil Fuel CARTEL does. Those GREEN energy sources will keep on DELIVERING ENERGY irrespective of whatever "market fluctuations" might exist at any time NOW or in the FUTURE.

My own Solar/Battery array is a ONE TIME investment that is ALREADY paying itself off AHEAD of schedule and will have 2+ DECADES of energy production at ZERO cost to myself.

The same Math applies to the MICRO and MACRO scale of energy production.

Stealing copper wire strung on polls is so easy a young adolescent could do it and run away with the wire.

Unbolting a single solar panel and manhandling it down off a roof and then hauling it away would require at least TWO grown men and a pickup which has number plates.

Not saying it doesn't happen but then there is the problem with finding a buyer willing to pay what it cost to steal the panel which probably does NOT come with any warranty whereas selling copper wire to a scrapyard is probably a routine matter.

    You noticed that too?

Seems more akin to the OP trying to convince THEMSELVES more than anyone else about their BELIEFS that are CRUMBLING as the REALITY of LOWER costs makes the changeover a no-brainer NOW.

As The Transition To Green Energy Crumbles, Funding For The Climate Scare Soars
    November 08, 2023/ Francis Menton
    [IMG]

    • You have likely seen over the course of just the past few months that the supposed green energy transition — widely hyped and massively subsidized for two decades — has suddenly started to crumble on multiple fronts.

    • We are rapidly approaching the green energy wall.

    • And yet at the same time, the promoters of the climate scare are not backing down. Not in the least. To the contrary, the New York Times reports just today that the major environmental NGOs are in a process of cutting their funding for their most basic programs, like dealing with toxic chemicals, in order to double down and focus even more on the one big issue — climate change.

A ‘Major Surprise’ Nature Study Finds Phasing Out Fossil Fuels Will Lead To Decades Of Warming
By Kenneth Richard on 2. November 2023

“We would expect from a 100% switchover from fossil fuels to zero-emission renewables…net radiative heating would increase drastically.” – Nair et al., 2023
Using observational data gleaned from COVID-19 lockdowns in South Asia, scientists publishing in a Nature journal (Nair et al., 2023) have now determined the ongoing switch to zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions renewables will subsequently lead to a dramatic reduction in climate-cooling aerosol (pollution) emissions. Because aerosol emissions have a relatively greater climate impact by reflecting shortwave radiation, the net effect of transitioning to renewables will be to “drastically” increase Earth’s temperatures over the coming decades.

“Mitigation strategies focusing on the phase-out of fossil fuels will lead to quick removal of the short-lived aerosols while the longer-lived major greenhouse gases decrease much more slowly, likely resulting in undesired net warming of the climate during a decades-long transition period.”

I'll be in favor or ways to reduce fossil fuel consumption only so long as those ways are actually pragmatic and do not carry economic costs that are too large.
I also think we should be against things that eliminate individual consumer choice too much. That's mostly the product of lazy thinking, because policy-makers don't actually understand anything about the energy industry or economics and can only understand what they personally see in their daily lives.

We need input from engineers and energy economists to be able to know if any proposal is a good idea.
Unfortunately that often does not happen, because politicians make decisions based on emotion rather than math and logic.

Why do we need to reply? It's like reading the newspaper. A good way to stay current without all the physics deniers getting in the way.

Yeah, it says he's not peddling LW gobbledegook. Says that he has a good knowledge of climate reality rather than the canned slogans and nonsensical LW politiscience ideological nonsense.

No he is peddling right wing “let’s protect the multi billionaires whilst sticking it to the little guys”. For a start - it is a blog aka someone’s unedited opinion posted on an obscure site - hardly world shaking and quite frankly about the only people even looking at it is Jack and maybe the other 27 people who have “liked” it. It is more obscure than a blog on daily belly button fluff. I also object to the fact that this guy misrepresents where he stands

    https://co2coalition.org/teammember/15316/

sounds like he would not be a denialist doesn’t it? Except that the “Global Warming Policy Foundation” is a front for exxonmobil https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Global_Warming_Policy_Foundation

And how many people is that wanting to “stay current”? At present we have less than a dozen people on this board who are active denialists and the main reason I participate is that I find many of the misconceptions about science absolutely hilarious!

Way to misrepresent a paper! Now think hard for a few minutes please and see if the paper aligns with the title of the “mytrickszone” article

Not sure how it is in AUS, but here in the US the ultra-wealthy are decidedly LW. Another funny think is you're more impressed by the "official version" controlled by government and big money.

. Keep following the lemmings over the cliff. Or Desmog.
