    https://time.com/5833945/hydroxychloroquine-coronavirus-study/

This appears to cinch the argument as much as anything so far. Any apparent benefit was purely coincidental.

This is why we do science and don't jump based on fuzzy feelings and gambling bets, where lives in involved.

Sad, but not a surprise. Now, watch Trump supporters come up with the next snake oil remedy that will rescue the magical Trump economy.

I have watched plenty of Trump supporters continue to embrace Hydroxychloroquine by saying, "But it needs to be paired with X and Y to work!"

I have also seen them bash Remdesivir, a drug that studies are proving does work, because Trump did not mention it first.

The rabid right is passing around a story in which they believe that Fauci tried to undermine Trump and his malaria drug with a drug Fauci claims has had good results at blocking the virus and allowing folk to get well faster.

I have not looked over any of this, but why are you all so excited to hear bad news about a possible treatment drug? It's as if you're jumping for joy in celebration just to spite Trump. So odd.

You would prefer the economy become completely destroyed? Whut up, do you hate Trump more than you love America? Put me in a bed fighting for my life and I'll take a chance an unorthodox treatment might coincidentally work this time.

No mention of the successful cocktail being used in the field. Only Hydroxychloroquine. Another misleading study like the VA one.

A couple things to note with this study:
"Patients given hydroxychloroquine were generally sicker than the others"..... Why is this?
Also, why weren't they given the combo that also includes Azithromycin and quality Zinc.

It's as if they purposely do these studies half ass to ensure the results are negative. Could it be because there is no money to be made with this cheap drug?

Didn't you read the introduction to my post? "SAD".

I have said it before, I'd trade the virus going away for another 4 years of Trump in a heartbeat. However, one has to be realistic. Re-opening the economy on hope rather than a strategy is very dangerous and can cost countless lives. So far, I haven't seen a coherent strategy from Trump, just peddling false hope, like this chloroquine treatment.

Reopening the economy may well prove it should never have been shut down in the first place.

Sure thing. We are going to be at 80,000 deaths after the weekend, WITH THE LOCKDOWN. Wonder how that would have gone without. Well, we'll find out soon in places like Georgia.

Sooner or later we have to resume being a country and there will always be a price to pay. I'm high risk but I can tell you spending the last of my long life confined to quarters ain't what I want. Let's fight back, take back our lives and get on with it.

Sad news for sure. So when do you expect that the "science" will supply a proper remedy? And frankly why is it taking so long? I mean it isn't like there is a cure or a vaccine for SARs, or H1n1 yet is there? HIV? vaccine for that yet?

I would caution you that there are oh so many other areas that this also applies. So, perhaps the next time that you yell "science says" you'll remember your position here so that I won't have to remind you of it.

Norway is on lockdown. Sweden is not.

Sweden has 10x more cases and 10x more deaths.

    so much for your hypothesis.

Yeah, it's easy to talk the tough talk -- until the virus hits you or one of your loved ones. Maybe then you'll change your tune.

9-11 terrorist attacks killed close to 3,000 people.

    Covid has killed almost 18,000.

    all in NYC

No one is saying you need to be confined the rest of your life. And you are fighting a virus, not the government. Stop being so overly dramatic.

In Europe they are seeing the empty table syndrome at open restaurants. Just because businesses open, it doesn't mean people are going to run out and take unnecessary risks.

We are trying to thread a needle here. If the virus runs amok and kills millions of people, the economy is going to crash anyway. The first rule of pandemic economics is that in order to control the economy, you have to control the virus. That is a direct quote from an actual expert on pandemic economics.

That may sound horrible but how their populations and economies come out the other side will tell the true story.

Nope, Sweden has 3x the cases while also having twice the population as Norway.

Well we can find fault with whatever comes about but the truth is this virus has caused most deaths in areas where the population is dense. Those areas have seen the assault and should not see those numbers repeated or else herd immunity is a myth and we're all screwed anyway.

Everybody is an expert today and you can sort through and find one that agrees with your own opinion. The long and short of it is we have killed the economy and we have not yet really felt the pain of what that means. I have no idea what will happen as we open up but it does seem that it is the popular decision among people who live their lives day to day. We will know better what the results will be in another month.

Opening more businesses doesn't mean we give up precautions like 6 feet, masks and gloves. We have had open stores all through this and it has not resulted in mass casualties so far. I think so far caution is ruling the day, the old toe in the water method of testing. Plus I think we can take some comfort in the fact that many more of us have had this virus than we know, it is almost benign in many cases. At any rate we had best learn how to live with it because a vaccine is not really likely, natural immunity is how we will survive.
