Flights are picking up very quickly and airlines are expanding service daily, more flights and additional destinations being added when season kicks in. It will take time for a full recovery. people do want to fly, the practical ones do at least.

Source: wife works for an airline.

They have had quite a few retirements and some house cleaning is coming in October but thats to be expected considering the absolute beating they took 2nd Q.

I'm torn about what to do with the election, I'm considering parking 100% in cash beforehand.

doesn't matter who wins, the depression is coming, we can't keep dumping trillions into the market forever to keep it afloat

We should mothball small businesses impacted by the virus, or support them operating at reduced levels.

Flights are still down. Travel is down because older people are afraid of getting the virus. Businesses are travelling less, too.

We had 10 year old carpet so it was time anyway and I expedited the wear and tear by setting up a workspace in one room complete with rolling chair. (Thanks covid).

Yip, I see that curve trending north.

The flights I've been on have been packed and optimism is up with the workers. The 14 quarantines are holding things back big time.
    (Justified, by the way)

The dems wanted a three trillion dollar stimulus. The reps wanted a one trillion dollar stimulus. And the the dems gripe about the deficit. The dems wanted to send money to the dim cities which the dems allowed to be destroyed.

The major reason is that the unemployment was caused by government mandate, not by economics. The economy actually is humming along pretty nicely given that fact. I don't believe the $3 trillion dollars saved us from tanking. It did provide a little temporary boost. For instance we had a really strong June on our e-commerce web site as did virtually every other e-commerce web site. It wasn't a salvation for anything. It was just government overspending.

There are a lot that would say we are humming along nicely. There aren't any that approve of the debt, though, as you say. Government overspending and overborrowing will eventually take us down. I think we can agree on that.

We were at a very nice unemployment rate prior to COVID.

That’s the beauty of capitalism. It is extremely resilient and responds to market demands. As one group of jobs decline others are created

True for me as well. My business does not retail goods, so we don't depend on physical traffic- but our sales are at record highs, as in profitability. My investments are well-above my pre-pandemic high, and actually hit a new all-time high in June, which may take me some time to beat, but the stocks have the potential to do that and more if conditions just normalize. Investors do know that the proper economic conditions are responsible for this, and that Trump is the person who created them. And you are right- when a vaccine is ready and available, the market is going to take off. However, many old-time investors have told me that if somehow the democrats won the election- sell out fast, and bury your cash. I have to agree; that would be a disaster for all the economy- not just the investors.

If Biden gets in kiss that good bye because we will see a huge redistribution of wealth. They will raid your investments and your retirement and after all of that you will receive whatever they say you deserve. That is how they intend to pay for their New Green Deal. They're as crazy as Stalin, Mao and Castro and will eff up America but good. The progressives and socialists are now the Democrat Party, if they get in Biden will disappear and so will Pelosi, Schumer and the rest of the senior leadership. It's as sure as the sun coming up in the morning. This has been in the works for a long time and the young radicals are the ones who'll pull the trigger on this. If they get in America will perish

As much as I would like for you to be right, I don't see how air travel can get back to what it was until we have COVID-19 under control. My wife and I have traveled the world many times and would like to again before one of us can't go because of old age.

Since you're into air travel ... I wonder if we could get more people traveling if we provided them with fitted N95 or better masks they could rent for the duration of the flight. We could feed people in shifts on longer flights like those overseas. The masks with eye covering and the cabin HEPA filters might provide enough assurance that even older folks might travel. Too much? I mention it because the airlines must have considered it.

Yes, and one of the reasons I prefer a market economy. But we can't adapt fast enough to what may be a temporary dislocation to avoid a sharp downturn. Maybe we'll get lucky and develop an effective vaccine or treatment/cure.
