Three. All at university (the eldest is in a very long course, so they're all together at one school for the first time in while!). Why do you ask?

I have less of a problem with primary education than with colleges. But I do think they focus too much on math that most people don't need anyway and the details of chemistry, physics, and other topics. High schools should teach people the basics of scientific fields that lay people know and also history and culture in a fun way. They also need to do a lot better on writing skills and using them in these topics. I'd also like to see a lot more required classes in adulting, finance, and that stuff.

I used to tutor low-income students in algebra, and one of this biggest complaints is that they don't use it in real life, and they are kind of right. I also agree that parents need to take more responsibility. Schools are too easy and its too easy to get a high school diploma. I'd make it difficult to get a high school diploma and if you don't, you will end up with a lower diploma for the grade you passed, stay in high school for a couple more years, or try for a GED.

I am just curious because of the way you speak of education. Congratulations on having 3 kids in college---that's an accomplishment.

I’m thankful even though we don’t see eye to eye on the details we can still work towards the same goal. I continue to learn from you as well.

Joe Rogan isn’t for everyone I suppose but I look through his guest list once in a while and listen to the ones that interest me. Rogan is probably one of the most talented interviewers of all time. He’s able to draw information out of guests they wouldn’t provide on their own. The recent Elon Musk interview is great as well.

    Thanks for the dialogue.

There are no injustices, unless you're taking into account that black people commit more crimes than white people. That's a problem. If I were a black person, I would want to work to fix the problems in my own communities.

Math teaches you to solve problems.
While you won’t have to remember what a sine or a cosine is, you will probably carry the idea that you can figure out all sides of a triangle by knowing 1 side and 2 angles. This stuff is useful in understanding things like astronomy. There are many practical applications to these skills that we employ subconsciously. You don’t really learn numbers in math, you learn concepts of problem solving, how to take one giant problem and break it down into easily digestible areas.

Thank you, but it's not really an accomplishment. They're paying for their own education (so have necessarily chosen degrees which will easily pay off their loans), and we've done nothing but support the workload and commitment required to gain access to such degrees. We're not special, we're just sharply aware that kids MUST be able to support themselves - and potentially support a family also.

No different to the lioness teaching her cubs to hunt. It's an animal instinct, a bare minimum.

I actually think math is incredibly important. The Western World is failing our kids, in that regard.

Hood for you! This is a good start.

    Reparations are not an answer.

    This IS a good answer.

Wow...I would hope that perpetuating stereotypes like this was part of our past. Do still still make chicken and watermelon references too?

I lived next to, and often visited, section 8 housing complexes. I've seen it with my own eyes. That happens when you are out there living life instead of sitting on your couch watching tv.

    Go outside, see for yourself.

Free housing. Free food. AND...... Free education.
