Criminalizing begging in Michigan unconstitutional, court rules Washington A federal appeals court has ruled Michigans Depression-era law that criminalizes begging is unconstitutional because it violates the First Amendment. http://www.detroitnews.com/article/...ing-in-Michigan-unconstitutional--court-rules I actually agree with this. What is unconstitutional is the federal food stamp program and other forms of aid to the poor. If people want to freely give abeggar money after being asked all are exercising their individual liberty No doubt the beggar will be signed up to vote, highly educated and informed they should vote for Democrats, and given forced largess most would call Welfare which is where my disagreement resides.
Beggars are nuisance to the community, begging should be criminalized after they get substantial welfare so that they don't have to beg in the first place.
It's not a nuisance to the community. People have a choice about whether or not they can give the beggar money. Most beggars don't force people to give them money.
Sometimes beggars act threatening, and then its more like a mugging. That's why I stopped giving to beggars, because one of them started acting very dangerously. - - - Updated - - - Also, I always report it to the police when I see people bringing their children to a begging session. In my opinion, that's a form of child abuse.
How is begging mugging? Somebody who begs and asks for money is not necessarily using physical force or violence.
A little old lady will be afraid of any young man begging, whether he means to be threatening or not. She cannot know his intentions.
Not everybody is a little old lady. Besides, just because you cannot tell somebody's intentions, this does not automatically mean that they are mugging somebody.
The world should be safe for everyone, including little old ladies. No one should be afraid to walk the streets.
it is a nuisance, i cant even go to the damned gas station by where i work during the day because a row of freaking beggars are going car to car with their stories. then when you refuse them they give you an attitude and (*)(*)(*)(*). i feel bad for them considering they are very down on their luck, but *******n it if you got enough energy to walk around a parking lot all damned day to beg for money then you have enough energy to go get a *******ned job. i always give them a test though as i never have denied a homeless person some food. I always ask them what they want the money for and ill go buy it for them, and if they say they just want the money so they can get it themselves i dont give them anything. but if they say ok and they tell me what they want and i will actually go get it for them. but i just wont give them money because im not gonna be a contributor to their drug habit. hell i even bought one woman diapers and formula because she needed them for her baby.
I definitely think we need more hard working baggers and less Democrat voting freeloaders! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RhQsRKsU0M
In my opinion, criminalizing begging is legit, because - and I have to agree there with some posters above - it is oftentimes a strong nuisance. They usually don´t take care of themselves and thereby smell badly and at the same time are very persistent. If I walk down the street, I want to do that without being annoyed by random strangers. Moreover, many beggars defraud by spending the money on alcohol and drugs. Because of that, I can´t support this verdict.
