When did choice become a question of morals?

Hence why I said it was a choice.

So in other words, this has been the focus since the beginning of at least our conversation?

Catholics believe sex outside marriage and without the purpose of recreation is against God.
Orthodox Jews believe kissing your wife in public is against God.

Rock and Roll was famously critized and forbidden by many christian sects over the years.

Today's more conservative christian sects have come out against Rock, Hip Hop, Death Metal and House music amongst other.

Beer is a sin according to Islam.

And science has always been at odds with Christianity. It still is. Evolution. Global Warming. Both scientific facts now. Both stuck in the Christian mud.

It doesn't matter what religion you choose. Chances are something fun and enlightening is against the rules.

Really, ALL Catholic think that? All Orthodox Jews think that? And if you don;t ascribe to that - you must be an atheist?

    Nice logic.

So, you should be able to screw anything you want then?

And so, its OK to glorify women as a bunch of prostitutes? Makes perfect sense.

    Any many have not.

What does teh Koran say about why? How did men behave on a battlefield after getting lite? And that is 'good'?

And so we have picked an chosen things from religious sects, presented a strawman of 'God' and declared that these are why you don't believe?

Most religious people except evolution, and the regard for climate science has nothing to do with a person's faith.

Basically, you are atheist because you view the people around you as shallow and beneath your superior ... whatever.

Who is the shallow one? And might that have some reason for yor rejection of God? Perhaps?

I'm an atheist, so I'm not recommending "counting on God." However, if you believe that others are the source of your happiness, then you invite them to be the source of your unhappiness.

If you think you can be happy alone - best of luck. I prefer having a wife, children, freinds, family, etc. I find them a tremendous source of joy.

Why on earth would I not count on friends and family for happiness? I'm not saying they will always be there. I'm saying I will not be happy if I am alone. And there is nothing wrong with that. Humans evolved to be social creatures.

This has nothing to do with preferences. If one says to you "I would fight and die for my country", does that mean that one wants to do it and is eager for war? What a foolish notion. Expressing the state one can accept is not the same as expressing a preference for it.

I never said that there was anything wrong with that. Right and wrong doesn't apply in this case, there is only what is. People of faith are able to let go of those earthly things and find joy in being with God when all else fails them. You say that you have things, and because of those things, you don't believe (need) God. But if you didn't have those things, and could not have those things, then you would be worse off than the person who does have God, or recognizes that the source of joy is not in things.

I know what you're saying. I used to have faith in a Christian deity and it gave me a great deal of comfort. Losing my religion was an extremely painful experience. To be honest, I'd rather be religious and contented than intellectual and cynical. But there's no going back now...

I really don't believe people are able to find joy with nothing else but God. People who lose everything tend to question God or get angry with him. Or even view their (*)(*)(*)(*)ty life as a divine Time-out. Very few people would say "Well everything else in my life sucks but at least I have you God"

The leaders of the religion do. Yes. And no that doesn't make you an atheist. Not believing in fictional Gods makes you an atheist.

    Nice logic.

And not worry about the wrath of an Almighty? Yes. But there are a few things you could screw that would land you in jail. And rightfully so imo.

I'm not glorifying anything. I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Obviously. That's not the point I'm making here. The point is it really doesn't matter what religion you join. If it has some Godly figure punishing you then chances are it's limiting your life in some way. Even if that way is as simple as having to wake up every Sunday.

I'm not concerned about that. It's a fact that Muslims consider alcohol to be sinful.

All the religions I presented follow God. And it doesn't matter which one you choose. They all either try to prevent something natural and enjoyable or they

Yeah. Decades after science accepted it as fact. And if you think there is no religious reason climate science is accepted you're naive. The whole denial base is the SAME base that denies evolution. It's the same general distrust for science.

It's the reason that the more religious a nation is the less likely they are to accept global warming. There is a general distrust of science in the global religious community. And it hampers progress.

No. I'm atheist because I enjoy freedom. Not allowing a famous tool for government control to control you is the ultimate freedom. I only hope to spread this freedom. The less religious a nation is (by choice of course) the more free that nation is.

Who said it is a sin, it is only a sin and criminal under secular laws when you use it as such.
