I know just about nothing on any subject in the world of electronic communication but there are a few things I like. My wife and I have our own i-phone. We seldom ring one another but we do SMS rather often. All I do is go into her last SMS to me …. click and I reply. I don’t go into “contacts” and start from scratch. She does the same. No problem!

But some friends of mine (from the US) are coming to Europe and I will be travelling down to Spain to meet them. We will not be staying at the same hotel so while I am there it would be nice to be able to SMS each other to arrange when and where we can meet, etc. Well, we’ve exchanged phone numbers and I have now sent them 2 SMS messages just to establish the line. Both of my SMS's were received but I do not get their reply. They have screen shot my SMS and their reply and sent the screen shot to me via messenger. Yep! Something is wrong. Why can they receive my SMS but I cannot receive theirs’? :?

A customer wanted a quote and sent me a message from her iPhone to my Android phone, I never received it. A friend has had the same problem.

iPhones can run on iMessage between other Apple users. It's that working along side the standard SMS system where the problems begin. Plenty of internet sites covering this issue.

I've avoided Apple products. With phones, always had Nokia, short spell on Huawei, back to Nokia 8 running on Android. Bluetooth to peripherals always works and not restricted to iTunes etc..

Conclusion - Apple are a pain, avoid. Expensive junk.

Sounds like the problem is their SMS messages aren't compatible with iMessage or your iMessage app is not configured for a phone number. Are you using iMessage or SMS? Did you send your message via SMS or over the internet via SMS? Also, are you getting their messages over SMS/cell phone or just over wifi? You may want to try it again via SMS purely, with your wifi/cell data off. I've got an iphone, and have never had trouble communicating via SMS with android folks or iMessage. Check your settings to see if you are sending messages from a phone number and not from some kind of email address. Also, make sure you have "Send as SMS" checked.

The problem is your customers are sending via iMessage (which is internet based) rather than via SMS. I have no problems sending SMS messages to Android users, but I also have the settings set correctly, so it will send as SMS if iMessage doesn't work. On an iphone, if you send a message as an iMessage, the text is in a blue box, if you send if via SMS the text is in a green box. That said, my mother uses iMessage without a phone number (uses email address) on her wifi only iPad, and she cannot communicate with Android users but has no problem with iPhone users. I've never used an iPhone app that didn't work. I've used several Android apps that didn't work. I've also met almost nobody that has gone from iPhone to Android without coming back after a phone or two.

She's 50 ish and doesn't look conversed with technology. So all this would fly over her head at 33,000 feet.

She needs to go to the store she bought the phone to fix it. It's a pretty easy fix for somebody who knows Apple. Sounds like you should get a phone to communicate with your customers. Your android failed at that.

My Android works brilliantly, it's just the odd numpty with an iPhone that can't use it. The most common phrase said by iPhone owners, "How do I put music onto my phone?". My reply, "Go back to the store and buy an Android".

So you're blaming the customer because her phone doesn't communicate the way yours does? Get an iphone, as it will work with all. I have no problem communicating with Android phones or iPhones. If customers were having troubles getting in touch with me, I'd find a way. If you don't need customers, that's your prerogative.

Even if I won an iPhone, I would immediately list it on eBay. I have used Nokia's and Android all my life and never had a problem. The only problem I've had was just recently, from an iPhone user because of their hardware. If the customer/potential customer stuck with Android, they would have never experienced this problem.

My two grown up lads have iPhones. The youngest last night plugged his charging cable in but he then couldn't plug his headphones in. I told him to get his wireless headphones but they're flat. I told him, "No charging and headphone problems with my Nokia 8!!

we use WhatsApp for international travel, have people at home install it before you leave - it's free - plus if you rent a phone works too and they do not need to know new number

I use Android, SMS is always fine, it's MMS that sometimes has issues

I'll have to take a closer look at WhatsApp. Thank you.
