Why are people making such a big deal out of this idea of showing an ID before you vote? I heard some very good cases for it today and find it interesting.

    1) You need an ID just to get on a plane... why not for voting?
    2) most other voting countries do it, even countries we consider to be second or third-world!
    3) what do you have to hide? Its not like they keep track of what you vote for. its just a way to deter any form of illegal activities that can occur during voting season.

I just see it as kind of ridiculous to think it stops people from voting, especially when what, like 50% of America votes?

a lot of people think that it keeps minorities from voting because supposedly, so many minorities don't HAVE IDs...which in today's world is completely ludicrous; you can not live in this country without some form of ID. You can't cash a check, you can't rent an apartment, you can't get a job, you can't be on welfare, you can't drive, you can't fly, etc..

the fear is a hold over from the Jim Crow years.

I don't see what the big deal is to show ID. I have heard what certain Democrats have said, and I think it is a throwback. Frankly it just plays into the hands of Conservatives who claim there is 'massive voter" fraud without any evidence. There is also no evidence that requiring ID would impede any legitimate voters.

because the Democratic party believes that if illegal aliens voted there would be a substantially greater number of Democratic votes in the 2012 election. An absurd proposition that opens the door to allowing the entire world to vote in the next election. Why not have 1.2 billion Chinese people vote in the next 2012 election in addition to the 10-20 illegal alien Mexicans? How about letting Iranians have a say?

I see this as a non-issue. Anyone can get a driver's licence in this country- just fake a birth certificate and a SS # and the government will play along.

And on you will go - paying withholding taxes knowing you will never reclaim them... the government lives for this.

ID should not be a problem even for the most illegal immigrant, provided they provided for legitimacy in the USA with proper fake documentation... the government does the rest- they accept your tax dollars every pay period and so on.

ID away if it makes you feel better- there are two classes of illegal immigrants: ones who will eventually become US citizens and the ones that don't.

    Another misprint .
In America it should be ,
    IQ required to vote .
Cuts out 75% straight away .
And they will still get it wrong .

The problem is that too many Democrats have outstanding warrants or are otherwise on the wrong side of the law. They fear arrest if they have to identify themselves at the polls. Conservatives don't have this problem with the law.

^This is exactly what it is. And they need to be called out on it at every single chance. This administration needs to have its noses rubbed in the paradox it has created; that all citizens must prove they have healthcare but no one has to prove they are citizens, not even to vote.

    Question:
In a state that doesn't require voter ID, what happens if I show up at the polls, and find out that somebody claimed they were me, voted in my name? Glad I live in a state with voter ID.

It makes sense to have a Voter I.D. in order to vote.
