Reactionary identity politics is a tool of the ruling class to undermine working class interests and preserve the status quo. Marxist professor Adolph Reed on liberal antiracism and woke neoliberalism: Reed canceled by DSA liberals: Corporate media pushes divisiveness to protect the ruling class: The last thing they want is working class solidarity: Fred Hampton was assassinated by the Feds just 4 months later: Director J. Edgar Hoover ordered the FBI to "expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, or otherwise neutralize" the Black Panther Party to "prevent the rise of a ‘messiah’ who could unify, and electrify, the militant black nationalist movement."
He's right. I agree that identity politics hurts everyone. Mistaking black for poor and lifting up privileged black people (like those deemed suitable for university education) ignores both the white poor and much of the black poor. Helping a rich black kid get into Harvard does nothing for black kids living on the streets, and pushes white people to become more, not less, racist against black people generally. We need to regard individuals as individuals and do all we can to push all racial prejudice aside, including "positive" racial prejudice that some woke paternalistic illiberals think is beneficial to non-white people. Racism isn't defeated with more racism.
