Idiot Trump Inches Closer to Open War With Iran

Trump is about as close to an open war with Iran as possible. And it's entirely his own fault.

First, he stupidly withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal based on the idiotic lie that it was the "worst deal ever".

In reality, the Iran nuclear deal was the best deal at the time. The deal also represented a significant improvement over the failed status quo, a status quo which Trump has returned to with his campaign of economic terrorism against the Iranian people.

If Trump wanted a better deal, then he should have tried to negotiate a new one within the framework of the existing deal. But Trump is such a demagogue and an egomaniac that he couldn't give Obama credit for anything. He just had to find a way to destroy that deal, not only to satisfy Trump's own desire for attention and glory, but to whip up the xenophobic clods in Trump's base who think Obama is a secret Muslim terrorist.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, Trump also appointed two of the most belligerent warmongers in America - John Bolton and Mike Pompeo - to some of the highest positions within the government's foreign policy apparatus.

Since then, those two cretinous frauds have done everything in their power to instigate an open war with Iran as Trump dithers haplessly in the foreground.

And then there is the blazing hypocrisy of it all. Trump is more than willing to negotiate with North Korea, which already has nuclear weapons, yet he refuses to enter into good faith negotiations with Iran, even though Iran has no nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Israel, our supposed ally, has a not-so-secret arsenal of nuclear weapons that it refuses to acknowledge the existence of. How's that for irony?

All told, Trump has badly botched the Iran issue. He's brought us to the precipice of war with no plan to reverse course. So I don't really care who wins in 2020, just as long as the dangerous idiot presently occupying the white house loses.

NO WAR WITH IRAN

 

Non-intervention and the 2nd Amendment are major issues with Trump. If the Democrats would show a spark on intelligence they would use these issue to possibly win 2020. As it goes, they're going to lose badly.

The US has been waging nonstop war for over a century. Iran is just defending itself. And the entire world knows it.

The US has given war more than a chance, it has made an entire bloody industry around war. Incidentally, that pernicious industry is a big reason why the US continues perpetually to search for newer and more expensive wars.

 

Right. Iran has a peaceful history outside of dealing with the US.

 

Iran's history is a thousand times more peaceful than US history. And the entire world knows it. Even close US allies are balking at Trump's aggression towards Iran.

I don’t think Trump is close to war with Iran, although his arrogance and total incompetence might deliver that outcome.

What is increasingly more likely is that the sanctions regime that brought on and supported the Iran nuclear deal will collapse.

Trump has alienated all of our allies, the ones most likely to come to our aid over Iran.

Iran is using oil diplomacy to drive the wedge between the US and the EU and the US and Japan and South Korea even deeper.

Of course, as you noted, Trump gave away his one piece of negotiating leverage when he repudiated the deal.

Until recently only one country had violated the deal. The United States of America.

This is classic Bolton. It’s the same play he ran with the North Koreans, and he got a bomb to show for it.

He appears to be going for a twofer.

If the EU and Japan don’t break with the US over this, Iran will almost certainly fully resume its nuclear program.
