Interesting you should pick the woman at the well as being unambiguous.
Did you know that story does not appear in the oldest full manuscripts of the bible? Wasn't there. It was added later by a scribe or scribes, for some reason that is lost in antiquity. It is not part of the original.
The scholarly study bibles acknowledge this, like the Interpreters Bible and the Harper Collins Study Bible, and the Oxford Bible leaves the story out altogether as it finds it unreliable.
Great story, but a later add on.

    Totally agree with this.

Do you think its possible that an earlier manuscript could be found that may have the "woman at the well" story, and the longer ending of Mark? Also, if the woman at the well, never happened, what was the reason for the insertion, if it was truly inserted?

Interesting. The woman taken in adultery bit seems to me so characteristically Christian that I'm not bothered when they put it in.

I see no evidence that the story was dropped for awhile, which is what you are implying. Possible I guess but implausible in the extreme.
I said the reason is lost to antiquity in my first post about this.
