In terms strictly of lives lost - there is no right answer possible. It's possible had we not gone into Afghanistan, we would not have removed as many Al Queda and it's possible they would have killed more than 2,500 Americans over the past 20 years. But I can no more prove that you can prove the alternative.

Ignoring the loss of life - no - it was not worth it at all. I cannot say how many lives our soldiers' sacrifices saved. God rest all of their souls. How many trillions spent babysitting the Taliban when we could have spent $50 billion and rid the earth of them completely?
