Do you think he takes more votes from the Republicans, or from the Democrats. He appears to be somewhat conservative fiscally, but somewhat liberal on social issues. He is several times richer than Trump, so campaign finance would be no issue. The Republican party has moved right, and the Democrat party has moved left. Is it time for a third party in the middle? I almost hope so.
Votes don't matter, electors do. Really he would just force the Electoral College to fight it out or a fight in Congress to determine the winner at best. Clinton would only need to pick up about 30 more electors from now to win and The GOP (Trump) have to almost run the table of all the swing states to win. If Clinton lost New York, she could still have room to reach 270. Trump couldn't afford to lose any of the swing states to anybody. If Bloomberg won New York and maybe 2 of the larger swing states, he could put both candidates in trouble in reaching 270, and then leverage for the VP slot.
George Soros, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are also part of the 1% and all them always vote the Democrat ticket. In fact most of the 1% will dump Hillary and go with Bloomberg. Very few Republicans or conservative or moderate independents will even think of voting for Bloomberg because Bloomberg is your typical nanny state liberal, "do as I say, not as I do." The growing movement is anti-liberal, anti-political correctness and anti-establishment. Bloomberg is part of the lefty elite, part of the establishment.
You are only talking about 3 people; there are a lot more that make up the 1% and I still maintain the republicans will lose voters if Bloomie runs.
He would hurt Hillary more if she's the nominee, not sure about Sanders. He's basically a disciplinarian Democrat in a Republican suit.
Bloomberg has no idea where his numbers are. It would be almost a guaranteed failure to jump in the race now for anyone regardless of who.
I think he's a tough read; but generally with few exceptions those with big bucks want to keep them, hence my viewpoint that he'd take away votes from republicans but then again you could be right as well.
Bloomy and I have had our differences, but I've always considered him to be an intelligent, if rather vain, being. Frankly, I'd be surprised if he ran as an independent. It truly is a foolhardy gesture. But it could be his vanity coming to the fore.
I believe it has to do with the old politically incorrect stereotyping of Jews as being >" greedy, nit-picky, stingy misers and are often depicted in caricatures, comics, and propaganda posters counting money or collecting diamonds."< https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotypes_of_Jews
Yep. That's my take on it as well. I agreed with many of Bloomberg's "nanny stances"; I just never agreed with how he went about things. He and Trump have the same autocratic streak. It's the common thread among billionaires, I suppose.
he is an honorary clinton, he won't run unless she is out of the picture. If he did he would be banned from the beach at marthas vineyard
Bloomberg would split the Demos and even Priebus knows this. So he says....we'll take it. Priebus on Bloomberg run: 'We'll take it'..... Reince Priebus ripped into Michael Bloomberg on Wednesday, calling the former New York City mayor's potential presidential run a boon for the Republican Party. "I don’t really view it as a third-party [campaign]. I just view it as another Democrat," the Republican National Committee chairman told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "So you'll have two Democrats running and splitting their vote." With a Bloomberg run, he said, the vote would be split and allow the Republicans to "compete in places like Connecticut and New Hampshire and Maine, places we used to win 20 years ago. We’ll take it."....snip~ Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/reince-priebus-michael-bloomberg-219092#ixzz3zoGGaXm2
Lets hope he jumps in. He will make it easier for the Repubs to win the electoral. Michael Bloomberg Considering POTUS Bid?..... Bloomberg has reportedly said that he's willing to sink $1 Billion into his campaign, and is actually polling pretty decently against Republican and Democrat frontrunners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. (Considering he's, obviously, not campaigning yet.) From the New York Times: Galled by Donald J. Trumps dominance of the Republican field, and troubled by Hillary Clintons stumbles and the rise of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont on the Democratic side, Michael R. Bloomberg has instructed advisers to draw up plans for an independent campaign in this years presidential race. Mr. Bloomberg, 73, has already taken concrete steps toward a possible campaign, and has indicated to friends and allies that he would be willing to spend at least $1 billion of his fortune on it, according to people briefed on his deliberations who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss his plans. He has set a deadline for making a final decision in early March, the latest point at which advisers believe Mr. Bloomberg could enter the race and still qualify to appear as an independent candidate on the ballot in all 50 states......snip~
He's a left-winger on most issues, so he'd take more votes away from the Democrats. I disagree. If Sanders got the nomination, the establishment would probably support Bloomberg, which would make him a much more formidable candidate.
I don't think he'd be a formidable candidate, but you're right that he'd siphon votes from Sanders as well. He would essentially guarantee a victory for Trump, if he were the GOP candidate. http://www.politicalforum.com/lates...l-michael-bloomberg-trumps-perfect-storm.html
