We all have to deal with that awkward question of what to do with your body when its no longer needed by you. When youre taking up space and drawing flies, many of your loved ones think that a traditional way of taking care of your body is appropriate. There is always the idea of a casket, and a traditional viewing where you are literally turned into a preserved wax figure, and are on display in a funeral home. Then comes the church service, the hearse driving your corpse to the cemetery, and then there is a burial. Recently, a story was published in the U.K. that said that Sweden had just opened an Atheist cemetery. Basically, it is a graveyard free of any religious symbols. Ironically, the Church of Sweden has to maintain it. It is a case of a body being all dressed up with nowhere to go. Believers can be buried there too, but conversations about God are certainly not going to happen there. Some people avoid all that by taking the body to a crematory, where you are wrapped up in a large baggy, stuffed into a cardboard box, and then baked at 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. Creepier said than done as you are reduced to your basic elements of ashes-to-ashes and dust-to-dust. Practiced in many ancient civilizations, it wasnt until the advent and spread of Christianity and its belief in the resurrection of the dead, that cremation fell into disfavor during the 4th century, and by the time of the fifth century, had become almost completely obsolete. Modern cremation began again in the late 1800s with the invention of a practical cremation chamber. Many Christian denominations, including the Roman Catholic Church allow cremation. The Pope lifted the ban on cremations in 1963 and in 1966 made it permissible for Roman Catholic priests to conduct a cremation service at a crematorium. While cremation is forbidden by Orthodox Jews and Muslims, it is the usual method of disposal for Sikhs, Hindus and Buddhists, and as crematoria ceremony halls are non-denominational, you can have the person conducting the funeral and ceremony of your choice. There is also a new alternative to cremation called, Resomation. It is kind of like boiling the body in a solution of lye, potash, and water. A funeral involving Resomation is very similar to that of a cremation, until the point at which the coffin is taken from view. The coffin is placed in a special pressure chamber, but instead of fire, Resomation uses water and alkali based methods to reduce the body down to its basic elements. Once complete, the liquid is drained off and you end up with a pure white powder, very similar to cremation ashes, which can be placed in an urn for you to take and keep or potentially scatter. Another weird way to do basically the same thing is, Promession. The body and coffin are removed into a chamber where it will be slowly frozen to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Once frozen, it is ready to be placed on a moving platform that will transport the coffin through the different stages of the process; this part of the process takes place within a sealed unit called a Promator. The coffin is then weighed to determine how much liquid nitrogen will be required to freeze the body to -320 degrees Fahrenheit. This cooling process will take 2 hours and the liquid nitrogen will meanwhile harmlessly evaporate into the atmosphere. Once the body has fully cooled, it will be mechanically transported onto a belt which in 60 seconds, using ultrasonic vibration, shatters the frozen body into powder. The powder will then move into a vacuum chamber where clean water will evaporate and be dispersed into the atmosphere as natural steam. The dry powder passes through electrical currents which will extract any metals that exist, such as dental fillings, which will be placed in a container ready to be recycled. The dry powder residue, which will weigh approximately one third of the original body weight, still within the sealed unit, will then be placed into a small bio-degradable coffin. - - - Updated - - - This is nothing like Cryonics – that is freezing your body in hopes to have it revived in the future when they figure out what killed it in the first place. You can also turn your loved ones cremated remains into a diamond – that can be worn on a ring. This is known as a diamond burial. There are also Teddy bear urns where parents who grieve the loss of a child can put the cremains in an adorable teddy bear. Now these methods of taking care of the deceased sound bizarre because they are so new— but what is even more bizarre are the stories where circumstances get a little weird and stories of how people die—and how they are disposed of make us scratch our heads. Jayne Mansfield: The busty blonde movie bombshell was just 34 when she died in a grisly car wreck on June 29, 1967 in Biloxi, Mississippi. After Mansfield performed at a super club, the actress, boyfriend Sam Brody, their driver Ronnie Harrison, four Chihuahuas, and three of her five children —Miklos, Zoltan, and Mariska, were bound for a TV interview in New Orleans when tragedy struck in their 1966 Buick Electra. The speeding car hit the back of a trailer truck which had stopped abruptly behind a city vehicle spraying the swamps with mosquito insecticide. The crash sheared off the top of the car. Jayne Mansfield associated herself with Anton LaVey, the leader of the Church of Satan. There is a story, confirmed of course, that LaVey had an affair with Mansfield and when her new boyfriend, Brody mocked LaVey, he put a curse on him. It has also been rumored that in the accident, Mansfield was decapitated — later it was reported that both bodies of Mansfield and Brody were found in the street. The children sleeping in the back of the car, survived. Sharon Tate, wife of director Roman Polanski, was eight and a half months pregnant when she was murdered by the Manson Family, along with three of her prominent friends and a guest of her caretaker, at her Los Angeles home on the evening of August 9, 1968. According to convicted Manson Family member Susan Atkins, Tate, 26, had begged for her life but she had shown her no mercy. In fact, the blonde beauty was stabbed to death 16 times and Atkins dipped a towel in her blood to scrawl “PIG” on the front door of the house. The year before she was brutally slain, she glimpsed a ghostly image of the horrific fate that awaited her. One night she was staying at the home of Jay Sebring, a hairdresser who had bought the home of actress Jean Harlow. Sharon was feeling a little anxious and she couldn’t figure out why. Suddenly, a person that she described as a “creepy little man” came into the bedroom. The man ignored her and wandered about the room, apparently looking for something. It was rumored that the Benedict Canyon home was haunted by the ghost of Paul Bern, who committed suicide on September 5, 1932, just four months after his marriage to Harlow. Sharon realized that what she saw was the phantom image of Bern and hurriedly put on her robe and ran out of the bedroom. Sharon descended the staircase but stopped halfway. She saw waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs a strange dark figure. It appeared to be tied to the staircase posts. As she edged closer to get a better look, she noticed that the ghostly figure had had its throat cut. - - - Updated - - - Sharon could not tell if it was a man or a woman. The image disappeared and Sharon moved quickly into the living room to pour herself a drink. She looked around but could not find the alcohol. It occurred to her to press on an area near the bookcase where there was a hidden wet bar. As she nervously poured the drink, she accidentally tore away a piece of the wallpaper at the base of the bar. In the morning, Sharon was convinced the whole episode had been a terrible nightmare. But when she looked at the bar, she noticed that the wallpaper had been torn away from that spot. This blood–chilling vision matched something that had once occurred. She had been visited by a specter that showed her a future event. Sharon Tate had had a very eerie premonition. She did not know what it meant but history can only speculate that what she saw was her own death. There are also other people who have written that even in an uncanny way Roman Polanski’s film Rosemary’s baby predicted the death of Tate. Sharon Tate was stabbed to death. She along with her unborn child was killed by cult members, in her living room, with her friends. These cult members were controlled by a charismatic leader, Charles Manson who many people believe had ties to a satanic group called the Process Church of the final judgment. The movie, Rosemary’s Baby, tends to foreshadow the events of the Manson family murders. Rosemary has a knife and she enters a room with the Cult members waiting to take the child. In the final moments, it is too late. Her fate is sealed. The apartment scenes in Rosemary’s Baby were filmed at the Dakota apartments in New York. It’s the same place where John Lennon was shot by a fanatic of his music. Charles Manson was said to have been inspired to kill Tate and others while listening to the Beatles, White album. It is weird how things in death can go full circle. In 1971, Olmsted County Minnesota sheriff’s deputies discovered the bodies of Bernard, Paulette , Diane, and Richard Brom in the Brom family home. Missing from the home were the two oldest sons, David and Joe Brom. The police had been notified by the administration of David’s school that students had reported hearing a “rumor” that David had informed another student that he had killed his family that morning. All four individuals had sustained numerous gashes in the head and upper body. Police subsequently found a blood-stained axe in the basement that forensic tests indicated was used to kill all four victims. Immediately after the discovery, the police were concerned that David might be the victim of an abduction. A friend of David Brom’s informed the police that David himself had informed her that he had killed his family and testified to the discussion in the subsequent trial. She told jurors at the trial that Brom stopped her on the morning of February 18, 1988, as she was going to school, and convinced her to skip school with him. He then detailed how he killed his parents, brother and sister. “He said he hit his dad with an axe, he kept hitting his dad and his dad kept on getting up.” The girl said Brom told her he had gotten into an argument with his father at about 11:30 p.m. the previous night, and that he then stayed up until about 3 a.m. She indicated that Brom detailed the crime, saying that he went to his parents’ room, first killing his father. Then he hit his mother and went to his brother’s room. Then he saw his sister standing over their mother in the upstairs hallway, at which point he attacked them both. Brom was captured on February 19, 1988, while using a pay phone near the local post office. On October 16, 1989, Brom was convicted of first-degree murder and was given three consecutive life sentences. Now while this grizzly murder sounds like a scene out of a horror movie, the saga of David Brom became well-known after the experimental band, Negativland, sent out a press release suggesting that their song, “Christianity Is Stupid” was implicated in Brom’s murders. While they never said the song inspired him, the media assumed the song inspired the boy to commit the crime. Negativland saw it as a sociological experiment. Moving in on the anti-rock and the satantic rock hysteria at the time, the group created a press release explaining that the FBI had asked them to cancel their upcoming tour while authorities investigated the possibility that a Negativland song called, “Christianity is Stupid” had provoked the mass murder. - - - Updated - - - However, everything in the press release was a lie. Regardless, one newspaper published it almost verbatim, and then other newspapers, magazines and TV stations picked up the fake story, repeating it without bothering to check any facts. The Christianity is stupid song features the voice of Evangelist Estus Pirkle, who repeats over and over in his propaganda film “If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do?” Pirkle’s film included an imagined visit to the United States. Under Communism where the loud speakers speak up and constantly say, “Christianity is stupid! Communism is good! Give up!” If Americans think they have problems now, just wait until supernatural events terrorize and destroy you under a Hillary Clinton Presidency.
