Let's say that he wasn't a "natural born citizen". Honestly, should anyone really care? Please, no quotes on the law, I'm talking about ethics here. He was raised for the most part in the U.S., his mother was clearly American, what should it matter where he was born? McCain wasn't born in the U.S. either, although apparently because he was in a U.S. military base or something everything's cool.. it's all just silly in my view.

The Founding Fathers had differentiated between three types of citizen: natural born, native born, and naturalized.

Native born: born on US soil
Natural born: born to two parents of US citizenship regardless of location
Naturalized: became a US citizen sometime after birth

These distinctions were based on English law. At the time, the Empire was so large and covered so many countries that more of the King's subjects were foreign-born, rather than native born.

For legal reasons, the King wanted his subjects to be considered as citizens of the English Empire.

    Solution?

Declare that all people on Earth born of British parents, regardless of location, are citizens and subjects of the King.

The Founding Fathers would rather have a foreign-born person born to two US citizens in the Oval Office rather than a native-born person of parents with foreign citizenship.

It was all about preserving the integrity of the US government.

(There is also an interesting side note to this. Obama's father was always a citizen a Kenya. At the time President Obama was born [1961], Kenya was a British colony, which means that he received British citizenship through his father. [Ironically, the old English laws which influenced the Founding Fathers's views on citizenship were still on the books at the time.])

Ah the usual litany of Birther 'history'

No they didn't. The Constitution notes that all American citizens are either natural born or naturalized.

This idea of a 'third citizenship' is purely a Birther invention

Ah I love that- this is the first time I have heard a Birther claim that "Natural Born' doesn't have anything to do with birth in the U.S. at all. LOL

Frankly everything in your post is just made up.

Meanwhile all of us- all of us who grew up on the United States know that anyone born in the United States is a natural born citizen. That is why Americans paid no attention to Birther nonsense in either election.

As I always point out- whenever anyone uses Youtube as 'proof' of anything it shows they don't have proof of anything.

Personally, I find most of the "birther" claims as pretty silly. I tend to ignore them simply because as far as I am concerned, he is an American Citizen by birth. Just as much as John McCain is (who was born to an American mother in Panama), or my son is (born in the US to a foreign born mother). His mother was an American citizen by birth, and little else really matters to me.

I'm sure you are able to provide some writings by the founders to back up that.

    Any time.

Oh you want me to first? Ok

James Kent, COMMENTARIES ON AMERICAN LAW (1826)

    Your turn.
