90% of all military deserters in the past sixty tears were apprehended by local law enforcement.

I think it's about the same for counterfeiting and bank robberies both a federal crime.

When a country sheriff takes the oath of office the first thing mentioned in the oath is upholding and defending the U.S. Constitution before mentioning the state constitution or enforcing state or county laws.

Seems wealth inequality is thriving in the very places the left imposes policies that supposedly help?

    Irrelevant

    Irrelevant
Also irrelevant. The legal fact remains, states can not be compelled to use state resources to enforce federal laws.

Your opinion is noted but I like Moonbeam over Reagan. He always left us with a surplus. He was a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. Plus he dated the great Linda Ronstadt. I know I always wanted some of that. All in all, I have been pretty happy with all of our governors since I first moved here under Brown in ‘64. I liked Dukmejian and Arnold too. And I loved SI Hayakawa when he was our Senator he really called them as he saw them in no uncertain terms.

The upper middle class in California lives like the middle class in other states. In many parts of the state you almost have to be a doctor or lawyer to eek out a middle class life.

There's a lot of pressure on the young people from middle class families.

If you're earning less than $65,000 probably 60% of your income is going to be allocated towards the cost of housing.

If you're working at an entry level job, almost guaranteed you're going to have to be living with family (adults living with their parents).
Some have both a full-time job and an additional part-time job toiling to share a 2-bedroom apartment with a roommate. They probably don't have any savings.

Venice has always been a little seedy since the late 80s but obviously it's gotten worse.

There were warnings in the 90s not to walk barefoot in the sand, you might hit a burried hypodermic needle.

Anyway, since the 90s no middle class person can really afford to live there, so I'm not sure where the homeless and drug users keep coming from.
I do hear there are families living out of vans though.

They come from all over the place. There are huge masses of homeless that migrate between inland California in the winter, and that move to the beach in the summer.

Not far from me, there are homeless encampments in a large river basin.

Don't hike those trails, don't go off into the riverbed is the rule of thumb.

I'd estimate its over 1000 people spread along 2 miles, having glassed them from nearby hills/trails.

They have their own rules and customs in there.

I wonder if these are going to turn into permanent shanty towns like the slums in poor Third World countries.

Many people in the slums in other countries have better housing conditions than the homeless in California. Look at the favellas of Brazil.

Hopefully you as a citizen are taking steps to try to help alleviate these problems since they bother you so much. Sitting around banging away at your keyboard pointing your finger at one or the other political party sure isn’t going to make it go away.

Your video does not say anything about cutting off benefits or handouts to these poor souls. (If they get any at all) Nor did I hear anything condemning any particular political party. It was a plea to try to get these people off the streets and into some affordable housing. It has been my experience that GOP politicians generally vote no on most bills that would fund housing for poor people.

Ah so that video clip needed to have everything to be arbitrarily satisfactory to you.

But again you did get to go to a restaurant and that was nice.

So its all good-every thing is fine.

So why have any federal laws then?

So, if Ca residents don't like Ca, leave. Obviously those elected officials are reflecting the people that put them in office. Else they'd be voted out.
Complaining about a situation without a solution is just whining.

    More complaining without a solution.
If all you residents of Ca don't like what they're doing, vote them out.

Now you want the fed gov't to invade states of the UNION? You don't belong living in the USA.
We have a ballot box, not a dictorial gov't.
    You want a communist gov't.
You want to turn the USA into China? Russia? Iran? Syria? Venezuela? I don't think you want to live in the USA anymore. And so far, you are free to leave. Unless we get your type of gov't.

Of course, that topic is the lie. Which means, one doesn't understand the topic.
This is still a free country.

Why should anyone have to leave when the problem is irresponsible government? Most Californians I'm hearing from say that they have no say in state government, it is controlled by a small segment in the major coastal areas- thus the many calls to break California into multiple states. Far too much separation in interests and thinking between the inland and the coastal populations.

Governments job, regardless of party in control- is to serve the best interests of it's citizens. ALL it's citizens- which does not include citizens of other nations here uninvited and without legal permission to be here.
California is a state blessed with many natural resources and beauty- with many of it's major cities being turned into third-world class dumps. That is not, under any circumstances, good government-nor something to tolerate or leave if you don't like it. There are solutions, and the first is that Californias government needs to pay attention to it's real job and the people who pay the bills.

Well according to your buddy Rahl why would the state need any sort of permission? They could simply take state funds and build all the low income or hell, free housing for all the homeless and illegal residents in that state? But of course FEDERAL funding would be out of the question, but I'm sure the hard working folks of Cali wouldn't mind paying a lil higher state tax to accomplish things on the state level and budget!

There are many homeless people here in America. Especially in places with nice weather as homeless people who don’t wish to freeze to death are likely to find their way to such places. However that does not mean that Venice is not a great place to live for those that do have homes. It is a great place to live, work and play.

It seems that many people are amused by finding the dirtiest places in large west coast cities and trying to paint these whole cities with a broad brush as filthy. This is a fairly new phoenomenon and I have deemed such enthusiasts “Turd and Needle Hunters”. I guess everyone needs a hobby and many people really get off on putting other people and places down. It is certainly their right but as a life long Angelino, I feel that it is also my right to defend my home town.
