I didn't know how to put it. So I made a poll. Simple enough.

Uh, what do you mean by "true story of Christmas"? A story describing something that happened at Christmas? Any story that takes place around Christmas? Any story that has the same function as the Christian Christmas story? Should Scrooge be in there?

Same as the two posters above me: the question is too ambiguous. I can't answer.

In English we refer to the day as Christ Mass - Christmas. In Greek it is referred to as Xristou yenia - Christ's birth.

What else can Christmas be but the birth of Christ? :confuse:

For the romans I believe it was some sun celebration, and for germanic peoples it's yuletide.

I don't get the question. Are you talking about something like Santa, or something along the lines of religious meaning?

The date of Christ's birth certainly was not provided in the Gospels, though one of them (Matthew?) provides enough description to make it clear he places Christ's birth sometime in mid to late spring. However, winter solstice and midwinter celebrations were fairly common across different cultures, so it's not surprising that the early church decided to co-opt these pagan rituals and plunk Christ's birthday there, Gospels notwithstanding.

The current American Christmas is an untidy mishmosh of religious myth, pagan ritual, combined national and ethical traditions, mixed with an overpowering dose of commercialization. Depictions of Christ's birth in a manger, attended by the three wise men (not mentioned in the Gospel that has the manger, and vice versa), being overflown by santa's flying reindeer, strikes few people as incongruous. Hey, Merry Christmas, y'all!

so with that logic, what more could the "Christmas Disease" be then a disease cause by Christ

From what I have learned it is a mixture of a few of the things you put in your poll.
    So I can't select just 1.
But I'll say celebration of birth of Jesus, not actual birthday.
    Pagan celebration of the winter.
    Now mixed with santa claus.

You know there are a few posters in the forum that think the X in front of mas or ristou is demeaning.

maybe we need first to find out what a True Christian is. Is it someone who goes about with a cross held ready to bash the others?

Here are some true stories of things that happened on December 25th.

    http://www.thepeoplehistory.com/december25th.html

But I suspect what you meant was "what do you think is the best christmas tale". Jesus' life and teachings are a great story, but I'm also quite partial to Die Hard.

Christmas was created by the merchants that sell goods under the disguise of Jesus birth to increase yearly profits.
