There's apparently something in the "infrastructure bill" for everyone, if you pay the piper enough dough. The narrative of "crumbling roads and bridges" is now itself crumbling, given much of the spending in the bill isn't about fixing broken infrastructure, but spending on other pet projects that don't even exist yet.

Nearly 2,000 companies and organizations have lobbied Congress and the administration this year in an attempt to influence the contours of major new infrastructure spending, an effort that is sure to intensify now that the Senate is hoping to vote within days on their version of the $1 trillion public-works package.

Those groups collectively have spent more than $426 million in their lobbying efforts, which includes trying to sway lawmakers and regulators on far more than just infrastructure, the center’s data show. The activity reflects a dramatic uptick from the same period one year ago, when more than 1,300 lobbying operations sought to target Washington on infrastructure. Their total spending on all issues over that period exceeded $291 million.

Within corporate America, meanwhile, the lobbying offensive has been expensive and wide ranging. Amazon, whose founder Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post, spent nearly $10 million in the first six months of the year on a slew of lobbyists who worked on issues including “electric vehicle charging infrastructure” and “infrastructure investment legislation,” according to filings.

When the dust and wasteful spending settles, roads will still need fixed and bridges will still need to be repaired because the people who use those broken roads and bridges didn't hire the right lobbyists.

"Infrastructure bill" my hairy back side. This is porkulus on an unprecedented scale.
Of the $550 billion in "new spending" (a joke number - $1 trillion is the total est. spending), only 1/5th is supposedly earmarked for roads and bridges.

The perpetually failing Amtrak is being given $66 BILLION to make sure it can continue to fail.

$15 billion in EV charging stations - which EV drivers should be paying for themselves, since they currently pay no gasoline taxes. You want an EV? YOU pay for the infrastructure.

$73 BILLION to "shift the country from fossil fuels to clean energy", lol. What a joke. If "clean energy" was viable, it wouldn't need such massive subsidies.

    Stagflation here we come!!
