Among all the almost daily attacks by Israel against Syria, ostensibly targeting "Iran" but generally avoiding hitting actual Iranian officers, this is the first Israeli attack since Raisi became president which has caused casualties among actual Iranian forces.

The few prior Israeli attacks causing Iranian casualties did witness retaliation from Iran (albeit limited), but in those occasions Iran's government was in the hands of western appeasers. And contrary what some imagine due to pervasive Western propaganda, when it comes to even national security issues, Iran's system works based on consensus. The body which ultimately has jurisdiction over national security decisions, Iran's Supreme National Security Council, is headed by Iran's president and dominated mostly by representatives/ministers from the elected government, although constitutionally and in practice its decisions are subject to ratification by Iran's Supreme Leader (who also has a directly appointed representative on the council, while the council also includes among its members the IRGC -- which, unlike the government ministers, answer directly to the Supreme Leader. The IRGC secretariat itself, while more closely linked to the Supreme Leader's office, is also a joint appointee).

Anyway, the IRGC alone cannot decide the nature of Iran's reaction and retaliation, but it is clear that this Israeli attack will receive an answer. The response will be proportional, but it will result in similar casualties among Israeli officers, most likely IMO those stationed in the Israeli occupied Golan Heights.

In the meantime, my condolences to the family of the two Iranian officers martyred and may they RIP.

What are Iranian military personnel doing in Syria other than engaging in terrorism and transferring weapons to Hezbollah?
Israel needs to bomb them until they return like rats to their underground tunnels in Tehran.

Iran is in Syria on the invitation of Syria's government after the country was plunged into civil war by the usual suspects. While the fight against ISIS and co. has largely concluded, the almost daily Israeli attacks in Syria and violations of Syrian airspace require Iran's assistance, especially since the Russians aren't fulfilling their responsibilities in Syria and instead been doing mostly Israel's bidding on the ground. Besides, the Russian air defense systems supplied to Syria haven't been all that effective.

Iran has used advanced air defense batteries against Israel in Syria
Since Iran has deployed new air defense batteries in Syria last year, the IAF has had to change how they carry out their strikes

The Iranian foreign ministry has now also mentioned that Iran will retaliate for Israel's action.

    Aha.
You think it's normal that when a victim is killed, that it is the job of the victim to prove why that happened and not the killer?
    Seriously... what the hell? lol

It's an unprovoked attack on Iranian citizens and so they got the right to retaliate.
That's how it works, until proven differently by the perpetrators.

I'm sorry that those 2 were murdered. I don't know who they were exactly, but even if they were part of something threatening to Israel, there is a difference between them being a threat and having blood on their hands. I hadn't heard of any violence being brought upon Israel in a while so I don't think they would be more than a threat.

Either way. I would hope and suggest that the payment Iran is calling for should be done diplomatically first of all instead of breaking out with any attacks. They should take complaints to the UN and make it known to the world what Israel has done to them, demand justice and defense from the world body. Testify more than once, again and again to make a difference instead of attacking innocents and being more guilty than those who attacked military targets. Attacking with boldly stated vengeance would make Israel look like they were on to something and were actually being rightfully defensive.

    Re:

Iran has repeatedly reported Israel's crimes and atrocities to the UN (1) yet their attempts to resolve things diplomatically are ignored and the criminal Right Wing Zionist regime continues its mass murder with not only impunity but unlimited military aid from AIPAC's stooges in Washington D.C.

Also, the Iranians have learned not to expect accurate and honest reporting of Israel's crimes and betrayals of the US from our pro Israel MSM(2)

Regrettably , most Americans cannot find Iran on a marked map but they have been trained to parrot lies about Iran being the "... chief sponsor of terror in the word".

Your very sensible recommendation would work in a just and equitable world but, unfortunately that's not the sort of world we live in.

You mean like the propaganda that Iran never shot down a civilian air liner? Like Iran didn’t have anything to do with the terrorist attacks in Beirut during 83 that killed marines and cei agents? We should have leveled iran over those terrorist attacks. Or how about the proxy war iran continues to this day to fund terrorism against our troops? I truly don’t know why we haven’t wiped that country off the map.

No the propaganda I am alluding to is of an entirely different nature. You want, I will go over for you. Otherwise, no doubt Iran supports groups fighting US/Israeli hegemony in the region and that during the past 4 decades, Iran has at times initiated hostile acts against the US and at other times reacted to them. Your labels aren't either telling or interesting, but the fact that Iran has been behind many attacks against US forces in places they didn't belong (e.g., Lebanon, Iraq) is clear to me.

They admitted their wrongs about it, and compensated the victims.
The US never admitted to be wrong about shooting down an Iranian airliner... and in fact decorated the people who did that, while giving some money to the victims.

Do spot a keen difference in approach.

Like the US and Israel are not behind the terrorist attacks on Iranian citizens in Iran?
Like the US and Israel did not back up Saddam Hussein raging a WMD war against Iran?
Like the US and the UK did not organized a coup against the elected democratic government of Iran?
The US is the bigger evil, with their WMD war, terrorist attacks and coups.

No doubt you support all of that, while have a problem when the shoe is on the other foot.
    flip flop flip flop.

You're a supporting a genocide and wonder why nobody else is like you.
    Yeah....

Iran has clear intent to bring about "regime change" in Israel, not directly, but by trying to empower those who have a direct stake in the issue. That relates to the Palestine issue. In Syria and Lebanon, however, Iran's posture is to enable the axis of resistance to better stand up to Israeli aggression. Otherwise, there are 150,000 pieces of evidence in Lebanon alone to show if Iran was just seeking to harm Israel regardless, it would have done so already. The irony of it, which will probably be lost on you anyway, is that Hezbollah's arsenal of largely unguided rockets and less precise missiles have a much more "terroristic" application if unleashed against Israel than the precision guided kits and missiles that Iran has been working to deliver to Hezbollah (successfully I might add) and which Israel has been losing the most sleep over, as precision guided weapons are militarily a lot more significant than simply hitting towns and cities with rockets and missiles lacking precision.

Actually I do think the airliner we shot down and did not own up to was a mistake. The rest there is no flip flop. The idea that we are the aggressors on the terror side is not true. Iran has done far more than we ever have and we have never kidnapped Iranian hostages either. You’re spewing typical leftist apologist BS

of course Iran has ill intent towards Israel .. and IM never implied otherwise .. and of course Iran understands their own ill intent ... kind of like the ill intent Ukraine has towards Russia .. The attacked usually has ill intent towards the attacker ...

Blithering nonsense is this post -- what part of folks who are attacked harbor ill intent against folks who attack them .. is it that you have trouble understanding ?

Of course not. Iran is the self styled leader of the axis of resistance. The axis of resistance is meant to resist and stand up to US/Israeli hegemony in the region. Hence, having some form of hostile intent against both is a given.

The U.S. government issued notes of regret for the loss of human lives, but never formally apologized or acknowledged wrongdoing.
Despite the mistakes made in the downing of the plane, the crew of USS Vincennes were awarded Combat Action Ribbons for completion of their tours in a combat zone. The air warfare coordinator on duty received the Navy Commendation Medal / Rogers was awarded the Legion of Merit "for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service as commanding officer [...] from April 1987 to May 1989"

Like I said. No apology, but medals for all who are responsible for murdering 290 civilians.

    Utter nonsense.
The US even admitted they were behind the coup against a freely elected Iranian government.
With that, the US started the entire tit for tat deal with Iran.
Iranians got mad that the US did that, and kicked out the US with it's puppet fascist dictator
As a reprisal the US supported Saddam's WMD war against Iran. etc etc etc.

The US is the aggressor. You are free to source when Iran tried to make a coup against a US president / installed a fascist puppet regime / supported a WMD war against the US. The US is behind the execution of Iranian citizens working in nuclear facilities. You go source where Iran is even suspected of doing that in the US.

Heck, you even support the idea that the US goes genocidal against Iran.
That's you supporting the agressor to commit war crimes.
    Thanks for playing.

Israel has an ill intent to Palestina,... just like Russia is treating Ukraine. Invaded, occupied, oppressing, installing apartheid, ethnic cleansing, colonizing.
Iran is against it like EVERY country on the planet. But unlike others does something against it.
