    I can't, can you?

To me gun violence needs to go down much further than it has. The progress America has made is uplifting, but we can do better. If Canada can watch the same movies, TV shows, play the same violent video games, listen to the same music, all while having by in large the same weapons, and still have far less gun crime... then so can the U.S.

Any ideas on how to change that? I sure don't.

This depends on your definition of a citizen militia. We already have a huge citizen militia, it's called the National Gaurd. They are trained, armed, and regulated by the states, and in the event of a national invasion inwhich the U.S. military failed (which they wouldn't, we have one of the least invadable countries on the planet with massive deserts, mountain ranges, and rivers in addition to being entirely across the globe from any major threat. Our geography is our single greatest defense.) they would be able to hold out for years, but without an outside agency, would eventually fail. The sad truth is that if the military falls then anyone still fighting is just buying time with blood when they should just lay down arms and learn a new language.

You would really just allow America to end? If I was the last American I would still identify as an American.

Militia in 1791: The Whiskey Rebellion', or Whiskey Insurrection, was a tax protest in the United States beginning in 1791, during the presidency of George Washington. Farmers who used their leftover grain and corn in the form of whiskey as a medium of exchange were forced to pay a new tax. The tax was a part of treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton's program to increase central government power, in particular to fund his policy of assuming the war debt of those states which had failed to pay. The farmers who resisted, many war veterans, were fighting for the principles of the American Revolution, in particular against taxation without local representation.

    There is your definition.

After the horrific shooting of the twenty innocent children and nine adults I feel this topic is necessary to discuss. Not only is such a thing horrible, but the results of our scared nation afterwords is even worse. Now, as a result of this horror, gun control is being pushed more than ever.

I know I"m going to get flack for this but it has to be said. What would you do if you were president and you needed to pass gun control. Start a catalyst is your answer.

First of all, I believe that taking away guns is purly unconstutional. I encourage you to look up this link:
    http://www.youtube.com/watchv=UYbgGV7Yk ... ion_803559

The video is called Gun Control: Leads To More Violence. This video says:

"The Second Amendment was put in place to allow you to protect yourself when the police can't or won't. And it was written to allow you to use it against the government if it is taken over by tyrants."

It is our legal right to have guns. Once this right starts to be taken away from us bad things begin to happen. In this video there is also a quote from president Obama himself as he speaks to a senator saying,

"I just want you to know we are working on gun control. We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."

Under the radar. Think about that. Kinda like how that health care bill had things hidden in it, under the radar, and the fact that Obama pushed it through. Perhaps he will decide to push through another bill that requires us to "pass it to see what's in it".

Second, the idea of gun control has already been tried. And didn't work. Australia tried gun control and there was a large uprising in violence because people were unable to protect themselves from outlaws who had guns.

This link is about just that:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv1CRLMTebo
It is to a video called Gun Control - Watch What Happens When Guns Are Banned

This video takes place in Australia and the uprising in violence is staggering. The banned gun law did absolutely nothing to stop crime. Armed robberies jumped up 69%, assaults with guns jumped up 29%, gun murders jumped 19%, and home invasions jumped 21%. All of this because the good law abiding citizens who had nothing to defend themselves got attacked by outlaws with guns. Outlawing guns will not make it so bad people won't have guns. It will make it so good people don't have guns to defend themselves from bad people.

If guns begin to be taken from us the violence won't stop, in my opinion, it will be taken to a whole new level.

"Don't you realize that the British may be planning to invade and recapture the American Colonies", circa December 15, 1791.

You can identify as an American perfectly well without getting yourself and others killed.

Guess the answer to the first part was yes.

Freedom is a way of life, not just an idea.
