This thread is producing awesome comments

Thanks for the info Captain Smart ;)

    You don't say....

I was wondering how people would react to an over the top thought like this one. Ofcourse "Black Friday" isn't racist but I was wondering if anybody thought it was and how funny that would be. Perhaps it's to "over the top", but atleast it's original.

It comes from accounting terms. Retailers who have been in the red all year since 01/01 make so much money that day that they get into the black (go from losing money to making money for the year).

    It is a business term.

I suppose anyone who finds it offensive should simply go to hell.

LOL, actually Robinson Crusoe's mythological mate was called Man Friday, because he was encountered on a Friday. :)

Actually, outside the US borders, it is not a business term, nor has it any reference to sales. It has been traditional for centuries to call Friday the 13th, Black Friday - the term black connoting misfortune. This has developed into the practice of calling any Friday upon which tragedy or disaster has occurred, as Black Friday.

It's not really racist. It just means the day that stores open early and get rushed with crowds of people to get good deals. The large crowds provide good cover so the black shoplifters don't get caught.

I think it's racist to use the word "long" in a thread with the word "black" in the title.
