    The Washington Post says yes.

When it comes to high-profile collisions in restaurants, new rules apply

    A few excerpts:

"…the fact remains that restaurants are now part of the soundstage for our ongoing national spectacle. (snip)

if you’re an unsavory individual — of whatever persuasion or affiliation — we have no legal or moral obligation to do business with you. And that, too, is right. (snip)

…at bottom this isn’t about politics. It’s about values, and accountability to values, in business."

    and...

"The rules have shifted. It’s no longer okay to serve sea bass from overfished waters or to allow smoking at the table. It’s not okay to look away from the abusive chef in the kitchen or the handsy guest in the dining room. And it’s not okay to ask employees, partners or management to clock out of their consciences when they clock in to work."

"So when the day comes that the world feels returned to its normal axis, I expect we’ll see fewer highly charged encounters making headlines. In the meantime, the new rules apply. If you’re directly complicit in spreading hate or perpetuating suffering, maybe you should consider dining at home."

That last line sounds like a call to violence big enough to drive a Kristallnacht through.

It is the world and rules of conduct that apparently most leftists now endorse -- according anyway by the leftists who responded to this subject when 'The Red Hen' issue rose last year -- which is great until leftists are then required to accept those same rules when THEY are on the receiving end of things. But they won't accept them; instead they will collectively SHRIEK "Racism!" or "Religious Intolerance!" or "Misogyny!" or "fill-in-the-blank!" until once again they become the exception to their own rules. That's how they rock and roll.

It's scary how quickly the most tolerant people in the world, suddenly became so intolerant that they can't even do business in the marketplace with people who disagree with them. You can't have a civil society under those kind of rules.

It appears Americans have lost their sense of propriety and good manners. Things have turned ugly. A friend of mine, a conservative congressman from Texas, told me, 'Opion8d, I resigned from congress because things have gotten so ugly. These guys (RW, LW) won't even ride in an elevator together.' I guess that's where we are. It is what it is.

I would say you're inviting discourse by displaying a political opinion. Wearing a Trump hat, a DNC pin, an abortion shirt, a 2A patch, these things invite commentary from others in public. Bumper stickers as well.

That being said, none of these invite physical contact.

No you cannot. We know the nation that the collective political Left is trying to convert the United States of America into and it is going to be a dreary place indeed if they succeed . . . and I will be surprised if ultimately they do not succeed in their destructive goals. ANTIFA is the unrevealed face of the political Left, even though most Democrats polled would claim that they are not.

Similarly the supporters of Lenin would not have agreed that Joseph Stalin -- and the creative atrocities he enacted -- was where they were headed. Insert something appropriate here about Useful Idiots and leftist leadership if you desire; but personally I wouldn't do that, however, since the last time I posted the absolute truth regarding the collective Left I received a warning. Ironic, eh?

Well I agree, but then I'm a declinist who sees entropy as the natural winner of our political contests, and in this and many other cases, the left is the side of entropy.

No one should ever get harassed over their politics. Sadly I don’t see either side stopping the harassment anytime soon.

Either side? Is there a problem of the right harassing the left in public spaces?

Time to but about 1,000 trump 2020 stickers and put them on random cars, let some unsuspecting lefties get a taste of what their side is really like.

Of course you can. I don't do business with some businesses that wear their politics on their corporate sleeve. I just don't talk about it. Nothing uncivil about it.

This is about some businesses not doing business with you. I think your personal boycott is a bit different from a restaurant chasing out seated customers.

    Or spitting on them.

It's not OK - but it's silly to think that this type of thing hasn't been happening for the last 100 years.
If I were as disliked as Trump Jr. or Nancy Pelosi, I would be picking my restaurants very carefully.

Pretending Trump Jr. is the first victim of said poor treatment - or that he's some kind of special case - sort of ignores what
has happened in restaurants around the world for hundreds of years. You piss off the servers or cooks, they retaliate.

I always flash back to the famous pie from the movie, "The Help" when I hear about this type of thing.

Unless one goes to the source of the anger than this discussion is nothing more than about bad manners in public places. I suppose this kind of public shaming has occurred before in our nation but nothing like it is in the era of Trump. That is the source of disgust. Tucker Carlson can not go into a restaurant in DC without getting negative attention so he stays home with his family and orders via 'Doordash'. Most celebrities get unwanted intrusions by fans who want selfies or to just hang around the star. It is not at all uncommon for eruptions to occur between celebrities and the paparazzi, for example.

Personally, if someone came into a restaurant wearing a MAGA cap I would give the finger or say something negative since Trump represents the worst among us.

What was Charlottesville???That was the right driving a motor vehicle into spectators after showing up armed and masked chanting their racism.

This advice seems akin to me to an eye for an eye with the end result the whole world being blind. Honestly in this world what you put in is what you get so no one regardless of political affiliation will have a moment of civility. How could that possible cause more discord?

No. My point is that conservatives cry foul when others play politics, yet they do it daily.

Has the Washington Post ran an opinion column endorsing that before the Trump era? I don't think so, but if you think it was common that sort of abuse was sanctioned, and considered OK, please find some links. I would be curious.

So you admit your race commit had no basis in fact and you were just "playing politics?"

Asinine response since I specifically said it was not OK. I pointed out that it happens. That's reality. Try reading next time.
