Given the proliferation of AR-15's in American society (I imagine the AK clones are prolific, however I am an AR-15 fan boy so I don't pay much attention), and the acceptance of those firearms for hunting, self-defense, competition, sport, etc. etc. etc, is the prospect of an AWB really a big concern?

In reality I am not very concerned, assuming all people use common sense.

However there are comments on here (posted by self-declared experts who admit total ignorance to firearms) like "What would you rather be shot with? A 12ga. shotgun with buckshot or an AR-15? I would choose the shotgun..." [LOL], I am not sure if the public at large is intelligent enough to keep them legal.

Make, model, calibre, and so forth, I let my husband choose for me since he knows what is what. Anything that works is fine by me. Oh, I picked out the Smith and Wesson .38 "ladysmith" with the brushed stainless steel finish and rosewood handles.

I don't think there is a "big concern" right now, however, I like the idea of people keeping it at the front of their minds as a possibility.

It might not be likely to happen doesn't mean it couldn't happen and when you drop your guard, that is when the worse tends to happen (or maybe I'm just a pessimist).

My advice for people thinking about an AWB or most any potentially damaging legislation would probably be: Keep it in your mind; be aware of the possibility and be ready to act if something does start turning, however, don't stress out over it until the signs become clear. I'd like to believe clear signs are more than "Joe down the street said...", but then I'm probably being optimistic now...

I don't worry about it. I have life time supplys in two different stashes, enough for me and the next generation of relatives.

I don't worry too much either for the same reason.

    Proverbs 22:3 (NKJ)

A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself,
But the simple pass on and are punished.

Just curious. Why would you rather be shot with a 12ga shotgun rather than an AR15? I have seen both types of wounds and a shotgun wound at close range is not pretty.

Ayuh,... Considerin' the 10 years it was in effect, 'n there was No demonstrable crime rate lowerin' effect,...
'n when it expired, there was No demonstrable crime rate rise,...

You'd think, that it'd be a dead issue,...
Yet, there's been cries over, 'n over by the loony left to reinstate it, with even stronger, more damaging rules...

Unfortunately, common sense plays No role in the loony left's anti-gun outlook, nor their demands...
They still demand the ban of the tool, 'n ignore the causes of inner city crime...

After the Newton, CT elementary school massacre, I think that Obama, being the left-wing fanatic that he is, will certainly TRY to exploit this tragedy to pass an AWB (even though an "assault weapon" wasn't used in the slaughter). The guy has no qualms passing idiotic and unpopular mandates that fly in the face of common sense (e.g. The Affordable Care Act).

I wouldn't. I dismiss the posters who ask such questions and say they would rather be shot with a shotgun.

It goes to show how little they know on the subject.

There is no choice. I would rather not be shot by either.

I think there will be a push for an AWB from the usual suspects, that nutjob Feinstein is rearing her ugly head from the dark cave she lives in and squawking about a national AWB. They will scream, use rhetoric, play on emotions and demonize the scary looking AR, but they are in the minority. The way the gun laws have been generally getting laxer in recent years coupled with the recent SCOTUS rulings will trump the peanut gallery.

Not to say there won't be a media storm, hell, we all know how the media hates guns. But just because they scream the loudest does not mean they are in the majority.

If they ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines, there will be a lot of businesses that fold up, and lots of folks unemployed. Almost all AR's and parts are manufactured here in the U.S.

Any idea what the bill's designation is? I would like to read the exact wording, but I can't find it.
