This is the rumor I am hearing about the GOP nomination, from many different sources.

Kasich and Cruz will stay in the campaign until the end. The object is not to deny the Donald the nomination but to damage his candidacy as much as possible. Trump will end up being the nominee.

At this point the RNC will open a massive war chest to finance a third-party candidacy. Maybe Kasich, or someone else dependable (not Cruz). The object is to prevent any candidate from recieving the required number of votes in the electoral college.

According to the Constitution: “If no candidate receives a majority of Electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most Electoral votes. Each state delegation has one vote”

The idea is that GOP party loyalists will control this vote, and select the consensus establishment candidate. All they would need is a plurality of the 50 votes. 18 votes would do it, if the other two candidates were split at 17,15 or 16, 16.

What do you think? Would they do it? Could they do it?

I believe it is possible but unlikely. If they decided they didn't want to support Trump despite the votes from the American people. The RNC could nominate their own front runner. As possible as it is, and much as Conservative (not Republican) voters would love this. It would ultimately lead to the crumbling of the party. The people would see the RNC turn their backs on the peoples vote. There is no doubt the DNC would LOVE this. The party is already split. Due to this I don't think they will choose another member. Because the Republican party has many shades of grey the party wouldn't get away with things like that unlike the democratic party who mostly view things in the same way. This is just my opinion though.
