As the Israel-Hamas conflict reaches its 20th day, Israeli troops entered northern Gaza on October 26, as confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The operation in Northern Gaza was launched by IDF in preparation for upcoming combat stages, during which they targeted various Hamas terrorist cells, infrastructure, and anti-tank missile launch sites.

It is quite possible that Israel will go ahead with its long awaited and threatened ground invasion, but this is not it. It is a limited foray into Gaza to draw out resistance fighters and better access the IDF's ability to engage in a ground invasion.

Last week, the IDF sent another team into Gaza in a similar operation, albeit smaller and without tanks. That team was decimated, suffering casualties, and came back raising serious doubts among IDF's American advisors whether they will be able to launch a succcesful invasion.

 

I wish them success. Their fight is a difficult one. The sub-human enemies will use children as human shields.

I’m guessing it’s because the ground attack is not going in one big wave the way the media claims it will go. The Israelis have never revealed their plan.

 

Looks like they punched though and ran some operations in Gaza, and returned to Israel, so maybe this was not the actual invasion yet.

 

Are you expecting one massive wave? Israel has never revealed how the ground attack will go. The media has assumed it will be one massive wave of aircraft, tanks and ships.

 

The actual invasion may not look like what the media has been predicting. Seems everyone is expecting a wave of aircraft, tanks and ships like Normandy.

 

Who knows that their plan is, but they do have a wall of tanks at the Gaza border.

 

In the other thread focused on the dangers of escalation of the war, the question was the odds of a "massive" Israeli ground invasion of Gaza (the kind that would lead to massive fatalities on both sides but would also create such a massive humanitarian crisis that Hezbollah et al would inevitably feel compelled to act). Even when the MSM was predicting (as it was for over 2 weeks) that such an invasion was "imminent" (based on what the IDF was telling them), I felt the odds were 60%, then I increased those odds to 80% for a couple of days (there were reports suggesting Netanyahu was doubling down on his threats and was heeding advice of those who told him don't), and then put the odds back at 60%. Now the odds of such a massive invasion are under 50%.

As for the Israelis never saying they would launch a major grond offensive, that is patently false. Besides what the Israelis were saying, they had called up 350,000 reservists and massed tanks and trooops on the border with Gaza. It was only more recently when they began repositioning some of those forces elsewhere, some back to their bases and others to the northern parts of Israel (the so-called "northern front" with Hezbollah).

 

Looks like Hezbollah is shooting rockets at US bases in order to provoke some kind of response.

 

A show of force can be very effective during negotiations for hostages.

 

There should be a response or we look weak.

Most people who aren't well versed in these matters don't realize the pain the forces attacking US bases etc in the region take to make sure there are no serious casualties as a result. In doing so, they also show actually the precision capabilities of their weapons, as they hit things they intend to hit and which are known not to be housing US troops but avoid hitting their barracks and such. The purpose is to tell the US that while we don't want war, we aren't going to let you come here and dictate terms by force and threats either. This was the message Iran's foreign minister delivered in his speech today at the UN:

Ok but you can't deny that these frothy mouthed Israeli spokes ppl aren't total trolls. Imean the ambassador for Israel to the UK is a perfect example and so are all these israeli MPs that mention Isis and headless babies every other word that comes out of their lying mouths.
