That poor girl. I always feel I should say as I get older, what is this world coming to, however this kind of crime spans generations and centuries. I wish it were not so.
Like everyone on this forum and everyone in Australia I mourn for Aiia. I wont wait for a press release about the reason for the vigil at Parliament House. The reason is obvious to me and it should be obvious to everyone.. The people are sending a message to the politicians who govern in this country that enough is enough... Get off your collective political arses and do something about crime. Dont just stand there and exhibit sorrow...you bastards will be on a junket somewhere next week and tell us some political reason for the trip..... And the sorrow will be gone.... In other words any sorrow from politicians isnt really genuine...it is just a charade..... The silence from politicians is deafening about the Parliament House vigil.......Im disappointed that the media hasnt picked up on it.......... and as I type.....two Police officers have been shot last nite in Glenn Innes whilst responding to a domestic violence complaint.....it just doesnt end......

It depends on what publication you read. Some describe him as a substance abusing vagrant, others a troubled youth and aspiring rapper. You can already see the media in either lynch mode or defence mode depending on the politics they adhere to. The media make me sick.
I find this fact offensive. Australia has fallen to such depths that it is no longer safe to walk the streets alone. We can blame this and that, we can look to how this should be done and that should happen. ALL Australians should be offended. Such a sad day and time for Australia…
The point which also saddens me, is that no media outlet, and no politician has understood why the vigil was at Parliament House.....why doesnt the media run with this...its a silent protest by Australians that we've had enough, but no-one in authority is recognizing it..nor is the media....why not....
Well I just finished your thread on Islam. I will give you this, regardless of if I agree, You seem to have conviction. We saw that simple sentiment of being silenced as I said before, it is populist ideal… What media group would hit a political machine that feeds them??? You see what happens when the idealistic hatred is used to silence unpopular positions, forget the legitimacy of them…
Half our problem is that a large percentage of the general public is still unaware that the media lies to them. A classic example is the reporting by the Australian media of Donald Trump and the current shutdown. I dont support Trump, nor do I support the other mob...but it sticks out like dogs balls that every time Trump is mentioned by the Australian media, its in a negative fashion. Not once does the media put a pro Trump slant on it. I googled recently the good things that Trump has done...the list is endless...but no mention of any of this by our media....they just want to harpoon him every time they use his name.. Of course, the current Australian population is continually being dumbed down by television to the extent that most of us are on auto pilot....with absolutely no understanding of what is really going on. I once worked in Canberra for two years, and my boss regularly drank with Godfrey Evans...He would come to work the next day and tell us mind blowing gossip of what was happening in Australia.... This was fall off your chair type gossip about politicians and government...people dont realise that we are being conned......

Why do you state it is 'no longer safe to walk the streets alone'? Our streets are safer now than they have been in generations. Crime statistics have been dropping across the board for some years now and clearance rates have been increasing. The homicide incident rate per 100,000 people is currently the lowest recorded since 1989/90 - almost 30 year! None of the which BTW detracts from the tragedy of what happened to that young woman. It's just that saying things like its 'no longer safe to walk the streets' is like giving up. It's not only incorrect its surrendering to the inevitable. As a nation we can win, we can and are driving rate of homicide, and other crimes of violence down (and even when some classes of sexual assault appear to be increasing in most cases it's because victims are now being supported and encouraged to step forward and report them, not because the actual rate of assault is going up!) So what we all need to do is take heart and keep pushing the fight forwards - we are making progress and we can and will continue to do so.
Err, you have a point here. But I do suggest that while all these figures are changing the nature of the crimes are as well. I just wonder with a distinct lack of leadership in this area.
