And just tonight a little calico kitten, we're guessing two months old, shows up at our door mewling and crying. I was like, "Is that a cat crying?" and my fiance was like, "I think it is."

We opened up the door and there he was just the sweetest little dear! I looked right at my fiance with a big smile on my face and he says, "It looks like you got your wish hun."

He's sooo sweet you guys. I am trying to think of a name for him. I wish I had a camera or that my laptop webcam was working so I could take a picture. He's just so perfect!

Congrats. We found a 2 month old flamepoint siamese off the freeway one day and took it home. I was allergic to cats as a kid and didn't want to keep him, but he grew on me too fast. A few weeks later we adopted another one from a shelter because we wanted him to have a friend. She's a tortoise shell, and if we ever get another cat, it will be a tortoise shell. Their personality is the best.

Oh I am definitely allergic to this kitty. I started sneezing after a while when he came in. But I don't care! He's just so adorable and he loves being pet and rubbed all over. I think after a few weeks I'll build up some antihistamines. =)

Make sure you feed kitty, and give it water. Very important.

That's very good and decent of you. Irresponsible pet owners really grind my gears.

If the cat willingly approaches people, it's not feral, maybe someone lost him. Have you checked lost pet ads in your local paper or those hand-made signs folks post on telephone poles around your neighborhood?

I made the mistake of approaching a feral kitten at a gas station and got my hand scratched up pretty bad...not a people "person" this kitten.

We're going to see if he's micro chipped or something before we attempt to really adopt him, but I haven't seen any posters around and we don't get the newspaper. =(

    Congrats.

Find out if he's an outdoor cat or an indoor cat.

That's determined entirely by how the owner takes care of their pets. If the owner allows the cat to go outdoors, it will be an outdoor cat. If the owner keeps them inside.... you get the idea.

I strongly discourage you from allowing your cat to become an outdoor cat. The life expectancy for an outdoor cat is about 1/3 as much as an indoor cat, based on what I've read. They get hit by cars, they get sick more often, they get into fights with other cats, they don't learn how to use the litter box, they are less friendly with people. Just keep them indoors. Also, don't declaw them. It's equivalent to us having our fingers amputated at the first knuckle. It also screws them up emotionally and causes litter box problems. If you don't want them scratching stuff, just get these plastic caps that go on the end of their claws. The glue is harmless and holds them on for months.

You don't have to trim the claws for months?

When I was about 16 years old I was with a youth group from a church I was going to at the time. We spent the evening out just hanging out and having fun. When we all got back to the church I noticed this little black kitten sniffing around the building. He looked up at me and just meowed. We already had two cats at the time so I knew I couldn't take him home. Me and one of the guys ended up riding over town trying to find a place for him but no one was interested. Finally I had to get home but I didn't know what to do. I placed him in my inside jacket pocket trying to think of something and eventually ended up at my front door. My mom opened it and saw the kitten in my pocket and fell in love with him and we ended up keeping him.

All three cats are with her in Texas now. I do miss them and can't wait to get another cat of my own.

I wouldn't know about that. I find that cats still want to go outside, even if we kept then indoors. I have two cats who we've raised indoors want to go out.

Congrats on your kitty! About a year and half ago an emaciated tick covered mutt puppy walked into our yard. My husband ordered the kids to grab some dogfood...so I knew then that we just acquired another dog. The ones that come in out of the cold seem to show a lotta love almost like gratitude.

They fall off when the nails get too long. Plus you are supposed to trim them prior to applying the caps.

Well I'm sure you know that cats are nosey and curious and have a tendency to try and get into all kinds of things. Our oldest cat was originally an outside cat but when we moved we kept him inside se we were right on a busy road. He had trouble adjusting for awhile but he had finally acclimated. The other two never new what it was like to be an outside cat.

Yeah, really. Nothing worse than eating leathery, dried out cat meat.

They're curious about everything. Every time we open a cabinet they're there in 2 seconds to try and get inside.

I have 2 cats which were strays originally. I took them home, and they've been inside cats with me for a few years now. They do sort of get to go outside, because my apartment, on the second floor, has a large screened balcony on which they spend a lot of time looking out. They like to look out windows, and the balcony is ideal for them. They can see quite a good distance to the left and right, and have lots of activity to look at (swimming pool, mailboxes, parking spaces, cars coming and going, people walking dogs, stray cats , etc). And it feels more like outside than inside.
