A young female journalist has been shot dead in the Creggan area of Derry during rioting when petrel bombs were being thrown. Images from the scene show cars set on fire and others burnt out. Cause of the rioting not exactly clear to me "was in response to a house search that a large number of officers conducted in the area."

It has been strongly condemned by Sinn Féin who say amongst other things
Not being there no clue really what is going on but the call to disband immediately suggests possibly something organised.

and then at the end it says this

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...-in-terrorist-act-say-northern-ireland-police

anyone have any knowledge what is going on?

This would appear to be what the mentioned above ' "was in response to a house search that a large number of officers conducted in the area." was about.

I should have put this in the other day but in case people do not know the journalist Lyra McKee was not the target. It was the police they were trying to kill. The papers are saying how there has been a very different response to this. People are making it clear they do not find it acceptable.

In another article they go on about how Derry did not see life improve after good Friday.

    https://www.theguardian.com/news/20...-derry-fertile-soil-revolt-killing-lyra-mckee

Obviously poverty does not make people into criminals. However it is well known that poverty areas are much more likely to harbour criminals - trying to make a living and so on. The two arrested over Lyra's murder are 18 and 19. It is also unfortunate that young men in particular will try and make a name for themselves however they can manage. Their desire is to achieve. If they cannot achieve at things which are socially acceptable then they will succeed at whatever they can and somewhere where people have been considered 'heroes' and where I believe they still shoot people's knees or even kill them for drug activity, I guess some who never experienced the horror but also never experienced any benefit can easily see this as the way to get a name (achieve). The Derry people however are not impressed

    above link.

Lets hope things calm down, some hope is brought to Derry and our Government does not **** up NI Peace Agreement with its Brexit desires.

    Lyra McKee RIP.

Ireland may as well become independent if there is going to be a hard border. Not that I think it is in either Ireland nor the UK's best interest.
