A victory for freedom today. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323826704578354543929974394.html Finally some common sense prevails, my hats off to this judge. Bloomberg acts like a dictator having a board he appoints make rules for the whole city. One also has to think if it was really about health then why were certain places such as convenience stores and supermarkets exempt?
I myself thought this was *Lib* over the top .... if a kid is so undisciplined that he doesn't care if he's turning himself into an obese diabetic .... well, thats his *freedom* to do so.
Instead of trying to punish those who serve large sugary drinks, we ought to be looking at ways of rewarding those who choose not to.
It's called the marketplace. If enough people applaud the restaurants that serve smaller portions they'll reward them by giving them their business.
Sure, but it also wouldn't be a breach of anyone's freedom if the government provided incentives for companies to decrease the size of their drinks through reward rather than punishment. That's the way Bloomberg ought to have been thinking if he had wanted to reduce the sizes of sugary drinks legally.
This is a shame....people have no idea how dangerous High Fructose Corn Syrup is. While cane sugar is bad for you, HFCS is by far the worst. Soda manufactures need to produce pop with cane sugar, not HFCS. Pepsi does have Pepsi and Mountain Dew Thrownback (which is what I drink), but all soda manufactures should revert to Cane sugar. This should put a dent in Americas obesity problem. Of course this will never get tested while Americans continuously to pound 44oz sodas with HFCS.
And before anyone starts ranting and raving about, its their right to drink soda with HFCS, I would assume you are out partitioning the FDA to get these unbanned too? Banned Food: From the Strictly Controlled to the Downright Illegal
What is so hard about letting individuals, whether business owners or consumers decide what is of value to them. Government should just let people keep their money so they can spend it on things that are important to them. Forcefully taking money from people and giving it to others just so they jump through some arbitrary hoop setup by a politician is stupid and immoral.
You know what? I ain't even mad at this guy. I'm mad at the stupid butts that voted for him in the first place. Actually I ain't even mad at them either. They get what they deserve. Dumb inner-city apartment trash.
That's fine. If the inner-city apartment trash wants it then let them have it. Just don't go reaching outside of your fascist enclave to other people who don't even like you as a human being in the first place. In other words: Keep your stupid to yourselves. I don't want no part of it.
I am against bans on unpasteurized milk, clearly label it as such and even mention there are higher chances of infection or whatever from it. But let customers decide if they want to take the risk. Hell you are taking a risk every time you buy something at the store. Think the FDA is looking out for you? yeah right! http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-10-11/food-sickens-millions-as-industry-paid-inspectors-find-it-safe.html
Its no utopia, I realize people don't know what they are putting in their body. I just don't care, its their right. If someone doesn't care enough about themselves to do the research or look into it then they get what they deserve. If you want to drink bleach, do meth, drink 3 gallons of soda a day, whatever... I don't care do it. We are adults we should have all learned by now that our actions have consequences. Ignorance is no excuse, why do so many want to continually subsidize it?
