Kentucky school districts cancel classes less than 2 weeks into school year due to Covid-19, viruses and strep outbreaks

    By Zenebou Sylla, CNN
Published 5:49 PM EDT, Thu August 24, 2023

CNN — Two school districts in eastern Kentucky have canceled in-person classes this week after a rise in illnesses including Covid-19, respiratory viruses and strep among its students and staff, according to local officials.

The Lee County School District, which enrolls just under 900 students, reported an 82% decrease in attendance last Friday, which it attributed to illnesses including flu and colds, Superintendent Earl Ray Shuler said.

Lee County started the school year on August 8. By Monday of this week, the attendance rate had dropped to 81%, with 14 staff members also out sick, Shuler said.

I love that the superintendent's name is Schuler.

Anyway, I wonder if low vaccination rates in deep red Kentucky might be a contributing factor. One wonders about such things.

We Kentuckians don't give a rat's ass what you think about our vaccination status.

Some folks will never be able to understand that they were lied to by Fauci, government and MSM.

Rich irony so many of those gullible souls run our "higher" education system....

Very crowded city, of course. The more dense the population, the worse an outbreak is likely to be.

A gross number of Americans have died because they refused to get vaccinated.

It would appear that the extremely high vax rate does not live up to the political promises.

The vaccine doesn't stop transmission so it's not going to make a difference as far as infection rates. But, it would definitely improve, at least on average, the ability of those who contract it to have less serious symptoms and recover faster.

I'm pretty bored senseless at this point of the macho posturing from those who don't want to wear masks, vaccinate, or be expected to behave like they live in a society with other people. But that's to be expected at this point. However, I'm also equally bored with the idea of going back to the mask shaming and self-promoting over how seriously you took the pandemic either.

Lets let local health officials make the decisions. We can't let the extremes run things(COVID is fake, COVID won't hurt you, versus COVID means we have to stop everything right now and hide in our homes!).

You are bored and offended when fellow citizens stand up for their rights? Boy oh boy, that makes you in a curious corner. That means you believe the government has authority over your body and your neighbor's body.

Reading your post one can appreciate the old saying "liberty dies to thunderous applause".

A more accurate statement would be that once again people are being frightened and transfixed by being tested by a test never meant to be used for diagnostic purposes.

Sometimes it's embarrassing to be a human.

:roflol::roflol: The amount of obvious misinformation you produce is embarrassing. :roflol::roflol:

:roflol::roflol: Pandemic means worldwide, yet Fauci is blamed. Too funny. :roflol::roflol:

What is not funny — the death of 1,173,392 Americans from covid.

Who cares if little school children in Kentucky get strep, flu, covid, and other respiratory infections. Yup, best to keep those schools open to let disease run rampant. Let the children spread it to their families, to relatives, to friends, to elderly and vulnerable people. Who cares if people die all in the name of rights? Who cares if people go into debt over medical care for the whole family? Who cares if a newborn dies from being exposed to flu, strep etc? At one point where I live, we had so much strep that 15 previously healthy children died from complications from strep infections. It is not stupid for schools to be shut down in these circumstances. God forbid the government should try to do the right thing and curtail disease. How many people actually have to die for people to stop complaining and to stop being selfish and actually consider other people?

That doesn't make sense. You can see the statistical anomaly, and there is corresponding data from the medical sector.

Or are you that determined to pretend that there is a global conspiracy to make this virus seem more dangerous than it is?

Strep is more potentially dangerous than the other two due to its association with RHD

    https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/rheumatic-heart-disease
I suspect, given the high maternal mortality from “cardiac disease” that the rate of RHD is higher in the USA than is realised. America is not keeping stats on this
