'Keying your own car’: Democrat hits out at Tlaib for State of the Union response

A planned response to Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night by Rashida Tlaib, a progressive Democrat from Michigan, highlighted a rift in the party.

The president will speak to Congress and the nation from the Capitol. The Republican rebuttal will be delivered by Kim Reynolds, governor of Iowa.

Tlaib will also respond, for the Working Families party. It will not be the only Democratic response: Collin Alred of Texas will speak for the Congressional Black Caucus.

One moderate Democrat, Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, said Tlaib’s decision to speak was “like keying your own car and slashing your own tires”.

The rift in the Democratic Party is still a major problem, it's a big reason that Build Back Better was unable to pass.

Also, after several years of Democrat policies from defunding police, to an open souther border, to authoritarian covid restrictions dems wish to appear more moderate and change their record of failure.

So the leftist element feels ignored, hence tlaib speaking tonight. I expect more lashing out as time goes by.

 

I bet Tlaib is all angry tonight.

 

This has promise as a great idea! I can't imagine a healthier way for a big tent party to handle policy differences on such a big occasion. It shows diversity of thought as a celebrated trait a little more often than once every 4 years during primary season. What matters here is the tone of the response and whether the differences are dealt with maturely and respectfully. It does not have to be a 'keying your own car' experience like it has been in the GOP. The GOP should have been capable of having these kinds of public discussions within but Donald Trump can't imagine any public difference that does not deserve brass knuckles, steel toe boots and NAZI Brownshirt tactics.

Joe Biden does not demand that kind of complete silence and obeisance about party policy.

 

I love Rashida, she’s a home town broad and I get to see her in all her leftist glory. You go girl, you split that party up real good now, Ya hear? Midterms in 8 months.

 

It absolutely blows me away that democrats have to highlight race everywhere they go. Can’t have anything now without having a black person involved. They’ve been so racially charged it’s ridiculous. The color of one’s skin does not make their opinions any different than the rest of the party does it?

 

I heard about this terrorist loving Mo Fo giving a speech after Brandon does, and the story I read is that no left wing network will televise it.

 

Lol unless the party members are Kristen Sinema or Joe Manchin.

the parties are divided 50\50, which has allowed lots of division in the parties too, both left and right, as every vote is more important then ever in congress (both trump and Biden saw this when they could not get the votes, even though they had the majority)
