Provided that it is proportionate, fair, and equal across all segments of society, sure. The funds from the taxes should go back into reinvesting in the national infrastructure also not somebody's personal pockets or the military that already accounts for most of the nation's GDP spending.

I do not agree the public clamored for more laws. I believe the congress just took the stand they could make em up and we had to obey them all. And notice the choice of language, to improve life. Sure if you don't mind having the Feds on your back. Want a good example?

Due to laws over what they call inland waterways, they took it all the way to tiny rivulets that collect water and divert it to creeks. Those became on your property the business of the Feds. And for violations on your own land, they could severely sanction you.

i can look them up but cite cases where lawmakers make up laws to benefit a property that they own. They cash in and make plenty of money. We can't check up on our elected people easily.

A personal matter I was myself involved in. We have a modest population yet a lot of sq miles in my city. And it contains both wetlands and mountains. A city council man made a modest income. And it turns out he craved a very expensive home. Far above his living standard could provide. So on the council he strikes a deal with a developer. He sells a modest price home and buys a vacant lot. And on the lot intends to construct a home of around 3,000 sq ft on expensive CA property. So the contractor has his own personal needs. He owns acres of hill land he wants to construct million dollar homes on in the late 1980s. Back when a million dollar house was special and huge.

He works a deal with the councilman to pay for his architects work and supplies materials and labor, pays for permits, to build the new home for the councilman. All done against the law and quietly as possible.

Anyway, it took a few months to lay this bare but in the end the councilman was expelled from office. i was part of the group that exposed this chicanery.
