We can certainly lock up someone who is so unstable they are a danger to themselves or others if they can obtain a weapon. Its called being committed, and all 50 states have a process for it.

 

I think everybody agrees with you. Certainly the government does. Gun sales are illegal not only to people with mental issues but convicted felons, drug addicts and a number of other problem people. There is a form that every gun buyer must complete and sign that responds to all of these issues. The gun buyer can lie. There is no way for the gun dealer to know that. But lying can bring consequences as it did for Hunter Biden. It is an imperfect system.

The solution to these senseless shootings is not in the gun dealer's location. The solution is identifying and dealing with sociopaths like we did in the past.

 

Thats correct. There is nothiung wrong with being pro 2a and giving money to those who represent your values.

 

ANd yet, felons get guns anyways. So clearly the law you are suggesting isn't going to work. Its more "feelings" that arent actually effective at solving issues.

You missed the point from the original post that the person was mentally unstable becasue they were transgendere

 

Of course they can get guns, because we have manufactured and given guns to anyone who wants them for so long, they are so prevalent that anyone can get them. Even those mentally unstable personas who commit these mass shooting, and convicted felons

what does the NRA have to do with this? I would suspect NRA members -as a whole-have an exemplary record in terms of not committing felonies. The ATF has a record of how many guns were made in the USA (other than those that are made in private workshops) since those records have to be maintained by domestic firearms makers as well as importers

IF there is a diagnosed history of mental illness or you’re taking drugs that regulate emotions, NO I don’t think you should legally be able to own a firearm, unless a doctor can clear you.

Just medications that are designed to control extreme emotional shifts, depression and impulse control. I personally know people with bipolar and extreme ADHD, and they can make completely illogical and destructive decisions without thinking about the consequences. If ANYONE shouidnt have access to firearms besides criminals, those would be acceptable to me. If you’re DEPRESSED and have suicidal ideation, no damn way should a gun be in the house. Sorry nope.
