As we've drifted toward socialism since FDR, our international rankings in nearly every category have slipped. Coincidence? Of course not.
Unless you're connected. That's where the corruption dwells. But you haven't drifted towards socialism.
Yes your corporations can afford to employ lobbyists that work to benefit them... small business in America also carry a higher tax burden since they do not have the capacity of big corporations to use tax havens
nor do they get help when things go badly, the big boxes get gov bailouts ( little guys tax dollars) when they make poor decisions, the little guy gets to close doors and claim bankruptcy effecting them for many years...
Paying taxes to support far too many levels of government and government employees is part of our problem.FEDERAL<STATE,MUNICIPAL<COUNTY<LOCAL,REAL ESTATE TAX<WAY TOO MANY TAXES TOTOO MANY TAXING AUTHORITIES.Most countries do not have this. Our Infrastructure is antiquated and deplorable has not stayed abreast of the modern world, our maternal death rate is worse than most third world nations. We have been far too concerned about telling others in the world how to live while paying little to no attention as American living standards are eroding for most.
Ummm - how do you account, then, for all the countries on the list that espouse what you call 'socialism'?
This is the liberal group doing the survey. They did not disclose the metrics behind the study, but it seems I've read somewhere that it defines liberty, economic freedom and few other concepts in very warped ways. The Legatum Institute is a London-based think-tank with a global vision: to see all people lifted out of poverty. Our mission is to create the pathways from poverty to prosperity, by fostering Open Economies, Inclusive Societies and Empowered People.
What part of the post isn’t true? It’s strange that the people screaming they are patriots the loudest are the most anti-Americans in the room.
I don't think antiquated is the right word. Instead, ...... Yes, I do, but that does not necessarily spell "socialism". 100 years ago it was organized crime that manipulated small businesses. The government has taken over that roll employing the same methods. Organized CORRUPTION which now rules big business as well. The government (Mafia) has spread its wings internationally. What happened to Cuba is an excellent example. The American Mafia owned the place, Castro kicked them out, then the U.S. government promptly began a decades-long vendetta towards Cuba, punishing the country for defeating the Mafia. It is not difficult to see whose side the American government is on ... or maybe better to say what the American government has become.
Maybe we are confusing the term "regulation" with "hard-fisted control". I think that Scandinavia is more tightly regulated than the U.S. but Scandinavia allows more freedom by way of encouragement and allowances. What I am trying to say is that Scandinavia is less corrupt and the system is more Democratic and that is why Scandinavian ranking on the list of prosperous nations scores higher?
I'm assuming you're talking about regulations. Can you give me some of the examples (of regulations) you are referring to that make setting up or running a business difficult in the US?
No where I’d rather be living than in Texas. All the sweet greatness of living in America with the additional awesomeness of Texas to boot!
I'm not a business owner. I know every study places the U.S. at the bottom of the Western world regarding a friendly business environment.
Well I guess we're at the end of this discussion then, if you haven't got any backing for your assertions.
Different studies, different outcomes, not one of these places the US last in the Western World. This study has the US at 48 out of 80. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/open-for-business-rankings Forbes 2018 ranking, US at 17 out of 161. https://www.forbes.com/best-countries-for-business/list/4/#tab:overall Ease of doing business index. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ease_of_doing_business_index#Ranking 2019 - US no.8 out of 190 None of these has the US at the bottom of the Western World, some Western countries are ahead of the US, others are behind.
I wonder if all those caravans coming from South America are aware that Canada is their best bet for a good life. The USA should offer buses and transportation to the Canadian border and drop them off. Just trying to show a little compassion, you know.
Nothing you've just written makes any sense at all. It's as though you are replying to someone else on an entirely different subject.
