Well Canada (which, I know, really wasn't Canada then) was a base from which the English kept their boots on our necks and attacked us after being sent back to England. So you can see how these things go.
Of course, after WWII everyone is free to swing at us like we are a global pinata. I mean we only freed half the world (not ourselves only, but primarily) and kept the Soviet Union at bay.
I understand no one likes the big guy.

 

I disagree. A lot of us do care. But I acknowledge that there is a substantional number of Americans who know nothing about the outside world and who make up all kinds of silly excuses for staying ignorant.

 

That is pretty much the feel-good excuse we use if we don't want to hear the real reasons why we face criticism.

Whether you like to face it or not, pure unadulterated jealously surely is one huge reason why Canadians disrespect Americans. We didn't invent and discuss the "Little Sister" syndrome, you know.
Many Americans, not me by the way, don't know or care where Canada's capital is and I'm sure that is as much a reason for sniping as anything else could be.

It's the typical story of the chicken and the egg. The endless droning of insults from our side will of course make some Canadians respond in kind. I would be surprised if they didn't. The Canadians didn't just wake up one morning and decide to hate America for no reason at all.

I see by your number of posts, your not here much so it's assume you know nothing of what I do or don't know about the "outside" world.

 

I always see this as the counterpoint to the hyperbolic claim that the US "saved the world". How easily people forget that the USSR was complicit in Germany's aggression right up to the point where that aggression turned against the USSR.

Before the heroic Russians started killing Nazis they were colluding with each other on who gets which parts of Europe. How conveniently people seem to forget that.

Right. Because they won WWII all by themselves.
Meanwhile we kept England afloat throughout the war with aid and armaments, as well as keeping Europe after the war from falling into a Soviet sphere through the Marshall plan, and of course we fought in Europe and were the main force that took on Japan in the Pacific. Yes, we did a bit more than Russia.

i already made the point that soviets and nazis were sort of in an unholy alliance earlier in the thread and had hitler not turned on stalin who knows what the world would look like now

but that still doesn't take away from the FACT that the commies saved all of our asses

 

I think you are angry that America is at the center of the world's news, more often than not, while you sit up there freezing and fuming that no one knows, or cares, about what goes on in Ottawa. Keep your anger in check next, time. I think you are pissed that your holy NHL is centered in the US, that Gretzky lives here rather than there and the closest you come to a celebrity in your ice covered tundra is when some ex Canadian decides to visit home briefly.

seems strange that Americans would Be-little Canadians, and Mexicans, when both Canada and Mexico are the 2 largest supplier of fossil fuels to the UNited states.

I wonder what Mexico has to say about the recent Gulf Oil spill (April 2010) caused by BP and Transocean.

 

It is confusing when many believe it to be Washington (Seattle) and Canada to be the 51st State.
