Living in Mississippi, it was a given that Trump would carry the state. I still went out and cast my vote for him after sitting out the last 3 cycles. An election official at my precinct said that they already had record turnout. Turned out to be the case all over down here. People were motivated to get out and vote for Trump. I suspect this happened all over the country and that's why we're seeing this outcome.
I can't wait to see all the Mexicans fleeing the country and right wingers cheering. Except of course that there is already a labor shortage here in the construction industry, and if stuff isn't getting built, I don't make a living.
