Perhaps ban GOVERNMENTS from doing this to their citizens? Any government that actually cared about its citizens would never inflict lotteries on them.

Looks like you missed the point, even though it was right there in your quote. The researcher (who ever it was, - I don't care) was not saying lottery is racist, his complaint was about the aggressive marketing in low income areas. I don't agree with use of "systematic racism" line, because it simply does not translate to that. They are bilking money out of people who are willing to give it up, - they dont care what color they are.

I buy a ticket every now and then, like this weekend I might do it because FL Lottery is up to $26M. The odds are terrible of course, so there is practically no chance of winning, but its only $2.00 and its kind of fun. Some low income people spend way too much on it (and often) and I agree that is stupid indeed, because they actually need the money for other things.

The scratch offs are the worst. Someone may occasionally buy a one or $2 ticket for the really big prize but people who play scratch offs tend to spend way more money way more often on them.

I see plenty of people like to play the $20 scratch offs cuz they'll often hit for 20 30 40 $50 ( of course not near as often as they spend $20 chasing after it...)

But the only real reason to spend 20 plus dollars on a scratch off is to go after the big scratch off prizes which the website for the Florida lottery will tell you how many are remaining. But I bet you most of the people that spend the $20 plus on scratch offs don't actually go and check how many top prizes remain because they'll still keep selling that game even if the top prizes are gone.

Lotto is for losers. Just say no, the government already gets enough of your hard-earned money without donating it to them.

It's nothing but a money making scam for them.

I think the idea is that the good is supposed to outweigh the harm? They seem to think that the wealthy buys lotto... But truth be told it's usually those who can't afford and is another form of exploiting the disadvantaged. Disadvantaged shouldn't be equated to black though, that's racist.

Yeah. That's the thought process there. It is actually the thought process behind most of racism. People see lots of black people who are poor, so they equate black to poor, which is a logical fallacy of course.

Not all black are poor and nothing about having black skin inherently means you should be or are poor, and just because you are black doesn't mean you are the same as the other black guy or have more in common with him than that Cambodian man standing next to you. Same goes for other racist and bigoted thoughts like Jews being greedy, whites being racist, etc.

It is very alarming to me that well meaning compassionate people think they are being ANTI racist when they push black equals poor, enforcing that bigotry. It's why even wealthy black folks get added security scrutiny when shopping, and why they get pulled over for "driving while black". A black man can afford a nice car??? Well, yes. Some can.

It's also a self fulfilling prophecy. Black kids are expected not to make it, so many don't. Standards and expectations are lowered, so many don't live up to what they could accomplish. And those who do are looked at suspiciously as possible tokens, never being sure if they earned it or if it was handed to them based on racial diversity considerations.

That is racist as hell. I can only think of one thing more racist. That would be if Black Panther is NOT your favorite marvel movie.

Why in the holy hell is the government engaged in plundering its own citizens? Their only duty is to protect our rights. That does not include inventing ways to take more money away from us. What next, will the government start selling drugs in public schools? Nobody has to buy them.... right?

It is a free country where only the government can run lotteries? Really? It is funny how we give our freedom away and then say we live in a free country.

They're not bilking anyone out of anything.

It's all voluntary. Freely made choice.

Well, not really. It adds to available funds.

    Budget: 100
    Existing income: 50
    Lottery income: 50
    Budget 150

That's how lottery helps the budget.

some goes back into society, and if it was privatized, like Casino's, much would go into the pockets of the rich
