In his CBS interview last night, Donald Trump gave some clear indications that General James Mattis who is our Secretary of Defense, will be leaving the Trump administration. This comes just weeks after a book by journalist Bob Woodward reported that Mattis had privately compared Trump to a "fifth- or sixth-grader." It's not clear whose decision this is, whether it's James Mattis or Trump's.

Trump made the statement "I have a very good relationship with him. I had lunch with him two days ago. ... It could be that he is. I think he's sort of a Democrat, if you want to know the truth. But General Mattis is a good guy. We get along very well. He may leave. I mean, at some point, everybody leaves. Everybody. People leave. That's Washington." Remember that Trump promised to hire 'only the best people' and James Mattis was one of those people. General Mattis has been laser-focused on doing his job which is to ensure that the US military remains the most lethal force on the planet.

This is possibly the most worrisome departure to happen in the White House if indeed it does happen. People need to understand how important these cabinet positions are. Nikki Haley will be replaced but with whom and will that person have enough experience and knowledge of global affairs to be competent in that position? Who is going to replace one of the most committed to the U.S. generals like Mattis is?

After Syrian dictator Bashar Assad launched a chemical attack on Syrians in April 2017, Trump demanded Mattis launch an assassination attempt. “Let’s f---ing kill him! Let’s go in. Let’s kill the f---ing lot of them,” Trump said. But Mattis, according to Bob Woodward's book, told an aide: “We’re not going to do any of that. We’re going to be much more measured.”

Not only the cabinet, but the entire administration is deeply in need of vital people such as diplomats to 32 countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and S. Korea. These are some of America's most crucial geopolitical allies.

The last quote I heard this morning was this; "I know more about NATO and defense alliances than Gen Mattis does."

This scares the everlovin'fk out of me

For the sake of world peace to avert world war III I hope so, that old dog needs euthanasia.

In reality he'll be replaced with somebody just as bad if not worse, also somebody that knows how to kiss the ass of Israel having a public photo op at the wailing wall.

yeah, and Trump is going to fire Kelly (for the last two years, still). Another knee jerk topic pulled from the bowels of the media based on absolutely nothing. Yay you. :blahblah::blahblah::blahblah:

It wouldn't surprise me; being a member of Trump's cabinet you most likely have the life expectancy of a sheet of kleenex.

Any association with the Egregious Trump Trainwreck is career suicide.

That is why only a has-been (with nothing to lose) like Mike Pence ran as Trump's VP.

Nobody even remotely competent would run with Trump.

While it seems to be pure speculation, you don't know if it is or isn't true. Seems to me we should pay it little mind at this point.

Trump is firing his people, or bullying them, as you know. The fluctuation in his administration is already breathtaking ...!
Only in the case of Kavanaugh, no one has probably told him that he can never fire or bully Kavanaugh as a member of the Supreme Court if he does not danced sufficiently to Trump's pipe .

General Mattis is the best Secretary of Defense we have had in over 60 years. I would love to see him be Trump's SecDef for the full 8 years.

"Why can't we just drone him, (hillary speaking of assange), was fine, but trump isn't? ha ha ha.

Someone else, another partisan, tribe member, voiced the idea that no one decent would work for trump. Another opinion corrupted by the losing.

Anyways what experience did Haley have? What kind of experience is required to be bellicose, a perpetual war for perpetual peace individual?

We seem to have plenty of people with what is considered to be experience, but obviously what we lack are highly principled, moral people. I would take a reasonably intelligent person with strong moral principles over someone like hillary clinton or any other DC parasite, sociopaths, when it comes to representing and doing what is RIGHT for the american people.

If you think DC is filled with morally principled people, and people who represent the majority of americans, as they are supposed to do, and who have basic common sense driven by a moral compass, I got some high ground in florida for sale, cheap.

The mess that the american people find themselves in, were given to us, compliments of highly experienced people, not people of high principles and morality, who actually represent the best interests of our citizenry. Given this observable fact ,the OP has little meaning, outside of what partisans do, in knee jerks.
