At least the Republicans who opposed this had the sense to not vote.

Majority of House Dems Vote Against Deporting Illegals Convicted of Drunk Driving, Social Security Fraud

A majority of House Democrats opposed legislation this week aimed at denying admission or deporting foreign nationals who have been convicted of or admitted to specific crimes, including Social Security fraud and driving under the influence.

Last week, the House Judiciary Committee debated and passed four immigration bills: H.R.6976, the Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act; H.R. 5585, the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act; H.R.6678, the Consequences for Social Security Fraud Act; and H.R.6679, the No Immigration Benefits for Hamas Terrorists Act.

On Wednesday, 155 Democrats voted against deporting illegal aliens who commit social security fraud and Thursday morning, 150 Democrats voted to not deport illegal aliens convicted of drunk driving.

When they say they are not advocating and creating open borders, they are shameless lying scumbags.

And this is why minority communities are turning to Trump in the next election. This issue.

This sounds like it applies to more than illegals. Why would the headline be written that way? Strange.
Anyway, illegals can already be deported for DUI….and for any other reason.

"Can be" does not equal "will be". Pretty sure you know that. Especially when Biden policies direct the people that are supposed to be arresting and getting illegals deported to only direct their efforts towards illegals that commit "aggravated felony"...and even then there can be some leeway.

And if you don't know what applies for an "aggravated felony", here ya go: LINK: 8 U.S. Code § 1101 - Definitions | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute (cornell.edu)

That's the thing. It was not a DUI bill, but the headlines can be made to suggest anything, ans yes, illegals and legal immigrants can be deported for committing felonies. As a matter of fact, the bill simply says "non-U.S. national", not "illegal alien". Nothing new about that, so there is no point in creating new layers of laws for the same thing.

H.R.5585 - Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act does not even mention DUI

Why would a democrat say that breaking the law is bad and needs to be punished.

I’m curious if you would be happy for that to be reciprocated by other countries. So anyone who was ever convicted of DUI would never be able to travel outside America again. Ever.

Yeah? So? Entering and staying in the US is a privilege. Not a Right. You break the law, your privilege is revoked.

We’re gonna deport someone who lived here for 60 years, paying taxes and now living off their pension, for blowing .09? That’s idiotic.

Note that the OP does not cite a source, provide a link, nad wrote a headline that was deliberately misleading.

I do sympathize with this position, especially in a post-9/11 world of terrorism, but I do want to be cautious of making laws that would apply only to certain individuals, and not others. That I suspect is the main reason this bill didn't pass.

This is the crux of the issue. It's all well and good to say that there's standards for being a citizen/legal immigrant in this country and we should hold those standards. But they better be acceptable standards, and they have to be standards we'd apply to ourselves as well, otherwise this is just a caste bill masquerading as immigration reform.

If they're living on a pension then more than likely wherever they are deported to then that money will go a lot farther and they'll live more comfortably. Lots of people move to different countries where their pension money lasts a lot longer. So you're not pulling any heartstrings here. Canada does the same thing fyi.

Well, it can't apply to US citizens naturally. They can't be deported. But any immigration law would only apply to certain individuals, so not really a valid reason to not vote to pass such a law. And like you, as long as the law applies equally to everyone here and not a citizen, then I see no problem with this law.

If they wanted to live there they would. These are people who have lived here their entire life in some cases. Separating them from their families for something that often wouldn’t even result in prison time, is silly.

Maybe they shouldn't be doing something that can lead to other peoples deaths. Your attempt to trivialize what DUI's can do is noted though.

A bill was proposed to ban anyone who participated in the 10/7 attacks was called hateful by the two democrats who voted against it.

Two Democrats vote AGAINST banning Hamas terrorists from entering the US

Two Democrat Congresswomen have voted against banning Hamas terrorists involved in last October’s attack on Israel from ever entering the US.

Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush argued that the bill is "redundant" and will be used by Republicans to "incite" hate.

The No Immigration Benefits for Hamas Terrorists Act passed the lower chamber by a vote of 422 to 2.

From what I see it also applies to people entering the country. So a Brit who got a DUI conviction in Britain 20 years ago could never visit USA. Not even on holiday.
