So yea, bragging about your well built building after a man just died there is crass....at best. But, why did the need to put "and women" in parenthesis? "Firefighter" is already gender neutral.

This idiocy needed to justify a vote for this whiny bitch of a snowflake to be President never ceases to amaze.

 

Do you know how long it takes for fire to engulf the average 2800 sqft home?

Its around 4 minutes.

Now the average FDNY response time for that area is about 7-8 minutes for arrival on scene and another 6-10 minutes or more to mount efforts on a building that tall.

Also its worth noting that the Firefighters union says that reported response times can be under-reported by as much as 90%.

Anyways the point is that fire spreads, its a multiplicative beast.

Structures, especially tall buildings, are designed to contain fires in much the same way that a large ship is designed to contain water in the event of a hull breach.

Commenting on a design that was effective in limiting the spread of a fire thus giving firefighters the time they needed to address it before more lives were lost isn't "bragging".

So, basically what I'm saying is you can get off Trump's ass on that one because the facts and architectural concepts just aren't on your side.

Now as for the "and women" part why exactly is this even an issue?

It's a 'well built building' that doesn't have sprinklers. I wouldn't live in a high rise like that when it didn't have sprinklers. The apartment that burned was on the 50th floor--and no sprinklers. Incredible. I wonder if he has them in his apartment.

 

disgraceful that NYC law has a grandfather clause that allows 50 story buildings to have no sprinklers on the upper floors.

every building in the USA should have sprinklers on floors above say 20

It would be logical to grandfather in already built and works in progress. Adding a sprinkler system to an existing structure would be time consuming and so disruptive the building might not ever recover from the endeavor, not to mention the cost. It has less to do with sprinklers than you think. Anything at all that would have to installed throughout an entire building would meet the same opposition. You folks should be a little more objective and open minded about these things instead of just jumping off the deep end...
