Man Plays 'Call of Duty' for 122 Hours
    Nov 26, 2012

An Australian man broke the world record for longest video game marathon by playing "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" for more than 122 hours. (5 days)

Okan Kaya spent days on end playing the popular game at the offices of online retailer 4Cabling near Sydney and achieved a Guinness world record by topping the 120 hours, 7 minutes two Canadians spent playing video games in March, CNET reported Thursday.

    Hmmmmm...Panzerkampfwagen?

When I was younger I had the problem of playing brand new video games well into the early morning hours but I'd pass out at around noon and sleep all day. There is no way I could ever stay up for 5 days straight playing a video game. That's crazy!

meanwhile, back in Sandland, a Special Forces A Team returns from a 5 day patrol and calls it a short day.

If he played for 122 hours straight, then he would have been able to complete the single-player campaign a 294,994,106,294 times, including cinematic.

    Man needs a life.

I haven't even played the first one. I imagine it's like the Modern Warfare series and is incredibly short while holding your hand the whole way.

Call of Duty 2 was AWESOME!!!!! I don't like playing competitively (I use video games to relax, not frustrate) There was a long single-player campaign. You could play the Americans, the Brits or the Soviets, any of which were longer than the full campaign for the modern filler title releases. Killing nazis all day. It was brilliant.

No CoD title has ever measured up.

Video games are childish to begin with.

    What's childish about them?

It's just another way to have fun...

    Why is that bad?

You can read books and play video games...

    I know I do...

I'm still failing to see how having fun in the way that one sees fit is childish...

Video games are not, in and of themselves....a bad thing. Some of the most advanced flight simulators used commercially by airlines and by the defense department...are at their core...video games.

Moderation is the key...but I do not consider them "childish."

Ideally, maybe reading a book develops a child's imagination more...but as alluded to, I see no reason you can't do both.

A man playing a video game for 122 straight hours, is not being moderate...I think we can all agree on that.

Trolling threads for a topic you have no interest in just to make a pathetic attempt to irritate people is far more childish than any video game.

Video games, like Barbie and G.I Joe dolls, are a form of role-playing.

    Role-playing is associated with children.

Therefore, video games are associated with children.

I never said that video games are "bad"; rather, I said they are childish. There's nothing wrong with a grown man playing with video games anymore than there is with him playing with G.I. Joe or (God forbid) Barbie. It's just that the majority of video game players are under 18.

No, actually the majority of video game players are over 18...

In fact, only 18% of gamers, on average, are under 18...

And average age of gamers is 37...

53% of gamers are 18-49 years old...

This is all according to a 2011 report from the ESA...

    http://www.theesa.com/facts/pdfs/ESA_EF_2011.pdf

    So, anything else?

According to a report from the ESA. . .

Let me ask you this: What percentage of those adults started playing after they reached adulthood?

    Probably not many!

    Made you think, didn't I?

Can you elaborate what specifically you mean with this argument of "association".. Like if kids and adults do the same thing, adults doing it is childish if kids do it?

Wearing clothes is associated with children. Eating is associated with children. etc

Things are considered childish when only children do them. Like dolls as you mentioned. If both children and adults do it, that's not the case. It's just you saying so.

Notice that he hasn't returned, since his argument is thoroughly debunked...
