this judge railed on this guy about laws and how there are other ways that are legal to get people out of office rather than breaking laws. I totally agree. To complain about someone and how they may or may not follow the law then do illegal crap too is total hypocrisy.

 

Must be a right leaning judge - unfair! And the news comes from CNN of all places! They NEVER report on anything that doesn't fit their narrative.

That would be knowingly going against the law. Tax documents have always been protected by law.

No this was an act that was illegal. The way they got his taxes was never used in history before and in my opinion a bit scary to open that door. However you are correct, it was by all technicalities considered to be legal. But to illegally give them the way this man did was obviously illegal and unnecessary. He deserves what he got. No IRS should feel protected while braking laws designed to protect the public.

 

It absolutely was illegal and I wouldn't like to see it done on a regular basis. Of course, the occasional exception can be a healthy thing.

So, it seems we are all missing the point. ANYONE who then published, discussed, or otherwise used information from those tax returns are also in violation of the law. And EVERYONE who did, should also face criminal charges. These are the laws that must be enforced. Why do we think the current DOJ won't do this?

We all new that the whole Trump tax thing was a farce in order to release Trump's tax returns to the public for political purposes. This guy apparently drew the short stick and had to take one for the team.

 

I think 5 years for stealing records is over the top. It deserved punishment but that much. What if he had stolen Trump's car?

I imagine personal tax information is treated similarly to classified information in terms of the First Amendment. If some dirtbag steals classified information then gives it to a newspaper to publish, the dirtbag can go to jail but the newspaper is held harmless.
